🌟 January Nurse of the month 🌟
Deborah Dunlap, RN
Debbie has devoted 40 years to nursing, including 30 years as a Certified Pediatric RN. From the age of five, she knew nursing was her calling. As she shares, “From the age of 5 years old, God often confirmed my desire to be a nurse was my purpose.” That sense of purpose has guided an extraordinary career.
Throughout her journey, Debbie has practiced in a wide range of settings, from hospital care to home health. In addition to pediatrics, she holds certifications in wound and ostomy care, pain management, and IV therapy. Since 2014, she has specialized in home IV therapy for both pediatric and adult patients, and she confidently says she plans to finish her career right here.
When friends and family ask her about retirement, Debbie’s response perfectly captures her passion:
“I will retire when I'm told I can't go see patients pushing a walker with oxygen on my face. I feel extremely blessed to have a career that I am so passionate about.”
Her patients echo that passion, sharing, “This nurse is an angel on Earth and truly cares about her patients like family.”
One story shared by an internal team member beautifully reflects Debbie’s compassion and patient-centered approach. While caring for a pediatric patient with complex sensory needs and a history of difficult infusion experiences, Debbie took the time to understand what would help the patient feel safe and comfortable. By adapting her approach to meet the patient where they were, she created a calm environment that allowed the infusion to be completed successfully and with trust. The family expressed deep gratitude for Debbie’s patience, kindness, and willingness to go above and beyond to provide compassionate care.
This patient truly found the perfect nurse. Debbie approached the situation with humility, grace, and a smile, later sharing that she loved every minute of it.
Deborah Dunlap is the embodiment of compassionate care, dedication, and purpose-driven nursing. We are grateful to have her as part of the APS team and honored to recognize her as our January 2026 Nurse of the Month. 💙💚
