As part of celebrating our founding during Mercy Week, we honored Christine Bjork, our cystic fibrosis coordinator, for embodying our value of Excellence.

Christine works tirelessly to ensure that every patient receives the highest level of care and support. She goes above and beyond to make certain patients have access to all the resources they need, advocating for their well-being with unwavering dedication.

"Christine has been instrumental in the growth and stability of our CF program," one of her nominators shared. "Through her leadership, initiative, and commitment to high standards, she has helped shape the program into what it is today. She never settles for 'good enough'—consistently pushing for excellence in every aspect of her work and inspiring those around her to do the same."

Her compassion, dedication and drive make Christine an invaluable member of our team and a true embodiment of Excellence in action.

"She doesn’t just live our values—she sets the standard for them," Christine's team added. "This recognition is so well deserved, and I’m incredibly grateful for the impact she makes every day."

Congratulations, Christine, and thank you for your compassion and excellence! 💙

Mercy has two centuries of history and we're celebrating our values that have stood the test of time. Today, we honor RN Tonya Holcomb, a cath lab educator, for embodying our value of Service. A few weeks ago, we received a special family into one of our units with many special needs and in very difficult circumstances. Tonya sprang into action, reaching out to see if there were resources for clothing and ultimately buying everything they needed, from underclothing to sweatshirts, sweatpants and socks.

The nominator said, "Over the following days, Tonya interacted with the family, showing them such kindness and genuine softness that she was able to bring some happiness into their lives during such a dark time. We are so very fortunate to have Tonya, and her giant heart, looking out for our Mercy patients."

Congratulations, Tonya, and thank you for your compassion and service! 💙

As we celebrate our founding and who we are, honors RN Nadia Montgomery, a house supervisor, for lighting the way for us on our value of Justice and being in right relationship with one another, particularly in our concern for the economically poor. Nadia consistently demonstrates extraordinary compassion and dedication in her role. She goes above and beyond to support patients and their families, often stepping in during the most difficult moments with empathy and determination.

One remarkable example involved a homeless patient who passed away with no known next of kin. In such cases, the coroner typically assumes responsibility for arrangements. However, Nadia felt strongly that someone, somewhere, cared about this individual. She took it upon herself to investigate further, researching and ultimately locating the patient’s page, which helped her identify and contact several family members. Deeply touched, the family was able to coordinate funeral arrangements and say a proper goodbye.

One of her nominators shared, "This is just one of many instances where Nadia’s empathy and persistence have made a profound difference. Her actions reflect a deep commitment to dignity, respect, and human connection. Nadia is truly one of the most compassionate individuals I’ve had the privilege to work with, and she exemplifies the values we strive to uphold every day."💙

Congratulations, Nadia, and thank you for your dedication and service!

Celebrating Mercy's founding this week, we are honoring a caregiver who embodies each of our values. Congratulations to Angie Lambert, an advanced cardiovascular technician, who demonstrates our core value of honoring the dignity of each person.

Angie goes above and beyond for her patients, even meeting one concerned about parking and mobility outside so the patient wouldn't have to leave her car. "Patients and staff alike deeply appreciate Angie’s compassion, work ethic and dedication. This is the kind of care that deserves to be recognized and celebrated," one nominator said.

Another nominator recalled how Angie returned to work after the passing of her sister, arrived early and took on an extra assignment of caring for an early patient. In the process, she discovered the patient, who was visibly upset, had lost their spouse earlier that day. "It was a meaningful, almost providential moment—Angie was exactly where she needed to be, providing the care and comfort both she and the patient were meant to share that day."

Please join us in thanking Angie for her deep regard for the dignity of patients and her compassionate service every day. 💙

Nearly 200 years ago, Mercy was founded by an extraordinary woman with a mission, Catherine McAuley. Today, Dr. Kristen Brandon continues that mission and exemplifies the heart of Mercy’s healing spirit in all that she does. This week she was recognized with our physician's Charism Award.

One of her nominators shared, "Whether she is caring for patients in her role as a hospitalist, mentoring future physicians as the associate program director for the UAMS Northwest Internal Medicine Residency or serving as the acting medical director of palliative care, she consistently demonstrates compassion, dedication and a deep commitment to others."

Dr. Brandon was recently recognized with the Faculty Teaching Award by the UAMS Internal Medicine Residency Program — an acknowledgment that speaks volumes about her impact as a teacher and mentor. She continually goes above and beyond in her many roles, all while being a friend, advocate, mother and an inspiring leader in our community."

When the team found out that Dr. Brandon was receiving the award, they added, “Dr. Brandon is one of the most compassionate and well-rounded physicians we have had the honor to work with! She is always leading with kindness, empathy and excellence! A great mentor to all of us residents!"

Congratulations, Dr. Brandon!

It's Mercy Week and we're celebrating caregivers who embody the charism and values at the heart of who we are. Please join us in honoring Dr. Jacob Kaler, an orthopedic surgeon, who received the Charism Award today for his extraordinary care for his patients.

Known for his incredible skill and his incredible heart, Dr. Kaler begins each surgery with prayer and provides unwavering support for his patients throughout the healing journey. His compassionate care inspires all of us.

One of his nominators shared, "Dr. Kaler exemplifies the spirit of Charism—a gift of grace freely given for the good of others—through his thoughtful, faith-driven approach, his commitment to service, and his ability to bring comfort, hope and healing to those in his care."

Congratulations to Dr. Kaler on this well-deserved honor!

At Mercy’s recent Accommodation for Success event, we turned the tables with a reverse job fair that celebrated these unique strengths. The day also featured practical sessions on inclusive hiring and training, along with powerful first-hand stories from a lived-experience panel. We brought together workforce boards, disability support agencies and inclusive employers for a day of learning, connection and inspiration!

Getting screened for prostate cancer may not be comfortable — but it can save your life. 💙

Mercy caregiver Kim Henderson knows this firsthand. When her uncle's screening came back positive, her father and her other uncle got screened and came back positive, as well. All three got surgery and gained more precious years with the people they love.

Screenings aren’t just about you — they’re about your family, your friends and everyone who would love more time with you.

Do it for the ones you love. Get screened.

Born at just 22 weeks, Vivien's journey began with uncertainty and heartbreak after the loss of her twin brother. Through every scare and setback in the NICU, her parents never stopped pouring love and hope into her. Today, she's a charismatic 8-year-old with a story that inspires.

Vivien's mom, Stephanie, shares: "We weren’t just another patient, we could tell that everyone truly cared! We felt more like family by the care and love that was provided. We only have the doctors and nurses to thank for not giving up on her or us! She is now 8 years old with no physical deficits!"

Mercy unequivocally condemns all violence and violent rhetoric. Our prayers are with Charlie Kirk’s family and loved ones after today’s horrifying act of violence.

Tonight, we were made aware of unacceptable statements made by a social media user whose profile says she’s a nurse at Mercy. We reviewed our employee records and can confirm this person does not, and has never, worked at Mercy. Mercy would never tolerate any employees celebrating violence, which would be a clear violation of not only our employee policies but also our mission as a healing ministry of Jesus.

This week, we had the privilege of celebrating a milestone that will shape health care in Oklahoma for years to come. Thanks to a new gift of nearly $4 million from The Meinders Foundation, the late Herman Meinders is now Mercy’s largest individual donor in history.

Of this incredible contribution, $3 million will expand the Meinders Center for Movement Disorders, and $700,000 will bring advanced, minimally invasive technology for lung biopsies to our patients.

Friends, family and Mercy caregivers gathered to honor this legacy, including the namesakes for the new Robert H. Meinders and Linda Meinders Drumm Neurology Clinic, which is on the third floor of the Meinders NeuroScience Institute.

Since 2018, Herman and LaDonna Meinders - who both passed away in the past year - have given more than $24 million. Their generosity leaves a legacy of hope and healing across Oklahoma.
