This conversation shifted something in me.
Sitting across from my mom… hearing my story from her perspective…
from the woman who lived it before I could even understand it, it hit in a way I wasn’t expecting.
Because there were entire parts of my life
that were shaping me, protecting me, carrying me…
before I even had language for what was happening.
And it reminded me of something we don’t talk about enough:
Our strength didn’t start with us.
As amputee women, we’re praised for being resilient.
For adapting.
For figuring it out.
But we don’t always stop and acknowledge the people
who held us in those early moments.
Who made decisions we didn’t even know were heavy.
Who loved us through things we didn’t understand yet.
And we don’t always give ourselves permission
to still be supported now.
You don’t have to carry everything alone
to prove how strong you are.
You don’t have to rewrite your story
to make it look like you did it all by yourself.
Your story is allowed to be layered.
It’s allowed to include the people who helped shape you.
It’s allowed to include being held — not just holding it all together.
And maybe… the strongest thing you can do now
is let yourself receive that support again.
