Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center of Northwest Arkansas _ The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center of Northwest Arkansas was founded by Dr. Bernard J. Canzoneri, MD.

He originally hails from New Orleans, LA and he decided to open his new practice here in NW Arkansas due to the overwhelming need for expert high-risk obstetrical care in this area. Dr. Canzoneri is the only fellowship trained Maternal-Fetal Medicine doctor in Northwest Arkansas. He completed med

ical school and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. He then went on to Duke University in Durham, NC to complete his fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Dr. Canzoneri has a staff of ultrasonographers and a registered nurse who are experts in their field. Dr. Canzoneri will work in conjunction with a patient's Obstetrican to obtain the best outcome possible in a high risk pregnancy. We are proud to serve the Northwest Arkansas community and look forward to taking excellent care of you and your baby.

Dear Northwest Arkansas community,

I sincerely regret to inform my patients and the public that the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center of Arkansas has closed its doors. NO… I haven’t died or am dying; I have not been arrested for a crime; I am not an alcoholic or on drugs; I do not have any psychiatric illness. I’m fine.

12 years. Well, we didn’t quite make it to our goal of serving 10,000 high risk obstetric patients – we came really close. We’ve taken care of over 9000+ patients and 9000+ babies under our care, including twins and triplets. I did a world record interval delivery of twins. I emergently saved approximately 300 babies from being born too early with a cerclage. We made it through COVID. There was lots of laughing and some crying.

As I left the clinic today for the last time, I was looking around and I can see the faces of all of my employees who had ever worked there: the front desk, medical assistants, nurses, and sonographers. We all worked hard to keep you and your baby/babies safe and give you the best outcome, even if the odds were against you. Even though high risk obstetrics is a serious matter, I tried to have fun with my patients. I did see some miracles happen – things I cannot medically explain. I love what I do and taking care of you. Maybe I’ll return some other day.

If you were my patient, Thank You!

If you were one of the babies, remember, I saw you first!

As Cat Stevens sings:
“And all the times that I've cried
Keeping all the things I knew inside
It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it!

If they were right, I'd agree
But it's them they know, not me
Now, there's a way and I know
That I have to go”

A fabric womb made by Angélique du Coudray, a French midwife who was commissioned by King Louis XV to reduce infant mortality. From 1760 to 1783, she traveled all over France, visiting poor rural women and sharing her extensive knowledge with them. It is estimated that she trained some 10,000 women.
Du Coudray also invented the first lifesize obstetrical mannequin, for practicing mock births, and published a well-received midwifery textbook
