A cavitation that occurs in the body is joint cavitation, often experienced during movements such as cracking knuckles. When you stretch or pull the joint, the pressure within the joint capsule decreases, allowing gas (mostly nitrogen) dissolved in the synovial fluid to form bubbles. The collapse of these bubbles creates the characteristic popping sound. Hint hint… that’s why you do not need to hear a pop in order to receive a great adjustment!
