Hi, I’m Dr. John and I love to tell my patients the story of how I became a doctor. It actually started with my own back pain. Before I began my journey into acupuncture, I was a hospice nurse. I enjoyed the job and was happy with my income, but one event changed it all--severe, excruciating, nearly paralyzing back pain. The sort of back pain where even the slightest muscle twitch would send searing pain screaming through my body.
I did what anyone who isn’t in the "know" would do…I went to a doctor and got pumped full of painkillers. He said, "take these pills and call me in a week." Pretty much what we’ve all experienced--It did nothing to solve my back pain, it just numbed the pain for awhile.
Soon afterwards, a good friend of mine handed me an article about acupuncture. I didn’t know much about it and didn’t enjoy the idea of needles. But my back pain was so intense I was desperate--I had to do something. So I did. I went in for an acupuncture treatment…needless to say, afterwards, I felt awesome--like a new man!
From the first day I got my acupuncture treatment, something resonated with me. I knew I wanted to pursue this more fully… to reach beyond my nursing degree to a place where I can free people from their pain in a way western medicine cannot. It’s a holistic approach using herbs and natural remedies to combat simple ills, rather than “take two pills and call me in the morning”.
