On National HR Professional Day, we’re proud to recognize Courtney—one of the dedicated people who ensures everything flows smoothly behind the scenes! 🌟

Courtney has been in Human Resources for over 7 years and has proudly been part of the Affinity Hospice family for the last year and a half. She loves supporting employees and leaders while helping create a positive, people-first workplace culture. Healthcare has always had her heart. Born and raised in Southeast Michigan, Courtney is a die-hard MSU (Go Spartans!) and Detroit Lions fan. Outside of work, you can usually find her with her family, planning trips, or chasing down the nearest beach—no matter where she is!

"I have been working in Human Resources since 2011 and joined the HR team at Affinity Hospice on April 1, 2024. What I enjoy most about being in HR is serving as a resource and support system for both leaders and employees—helping them navigate challenges and grow professionally.

What inspires me most about working in hospice and palliative care is knowing I’m supporting the dedicated individuals who provide compassionate care to patients and their families during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

Fun fact: I absolutely love to travel, especially by cruise! So far, I've been on 14 cruises and am always looking forward to the next adventure at sea."

Happy Veterans Day to all the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve their country in all branches of the armed forces. It is a day to honor and express gratitude for their selfless dedication, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms.

It is important to remember that the impact of military service extends beyond the veterans themselves. Their families and loved ones also make sacrifices and face unique challenges. Recognizing and supporting them is an essential part of honoring our veterans.

November is National Hospice Month, and it is humbling to look back on this month and take it all in. We started the month with a staff appreciation breakfast and then there were the Veterans Day pinning ceremonies, proclamations, Thanksgiving, and Hospice Sabbath. All of these events illustrate how we are able to meet people where they are, whether it's supporting each other, supporting our patients, supporting our veterans, or supporting our families.

Hospice Sabbath is an opportunity for people of all faiths to pray for those coping with a terminal illness and to support families who are caring for those coping with a terminal illness as well as honor those that have passed. We want to lift up the front-line hospice caregivers who are ministering to those in need every day. We will be celebrating Hospice Sabbath this Friday at 6:30pm at House of Liberty Church. In honor of National Hospice Month, we would like to introduce you to one of our amazing patients. This is Teresa Adams. We asked Ms. Adams what one idea was that she had about hospice before coming on service that she now knows is not true. She indicated that she now knows that some patients under hospice care can improve in health and eventually graduate off of service as she will do in a couple of weeks. She also said she would like people to know that, “Hospice care was valuable because it provided pain management, spiritual counseling and assistance in personal hygiene.” Thank you, Ms. Adams, for allowing us the honor of taking care of you and, if you ever need us again, we will be here for you.
