Yesterday, we gathered to celebrate the incredible career and retirement of Martine Osselaer, assistant chief nursing officer at AdventHealth Redmond.
Martine’s story is one of courage, perseverance and unwavering dedication to patient care. Originally from Belgium, she began her nursing career in a 3,000-bed university hospital before moving to the U.S. in 1986 with a dream to continue caring for patients. Despite language barriers, her determination never wavered, and her timing was perfect. Martine joined Redmond just as the hospital was launching its open-heart program, using her cardiac ICU expertise to help build this life-saving service from the ground up.
Over the years, Martine served as ICU manager, quality director, and ultimately assistant chief nursing officer. Through every transition, including the hospital’s move from HCA to AdventHealth, she remained a trusted leader and mentor. Her leadership philosophy is rooted in honesty, fairness and empowerment, and has shaped countless nursing careers. Many of today’s leaders credit Martine for inspiring their growth.
Her passion for patient safety and advocacy has left a lasting legacy. Martine reminded us that behind every chart and monitor is a human being who deserves compassion and time.
As she steps into retirement, Martine looks forward to family celebrations, travel, painting and new adventures. Her advice to nurses: “Always do the right thing for the patient. Believe in yourself. Nursing is hard, but it’s the most rewarding job you can do.”
Thank you, Martine, for your decades of service, leadership and heart.
