Hi WORTHY wo/men: this is Marilyn.

I suppose all have heard by now that the Women of WORTH clinic--as we know it --is now closed. We were so excited last fall to hear that after 11 years of fighting to keep the clinic open that we were getting new funding that would allow us to continue and expand our services.

I’ll spare you all the ugly details. You know what they say about “if it’s too good to be true…” Sadly it did turn out to be too good to be true for the clinic. Corporate bureaucracy and micro/mismanagement killed our clinic. Women of WORTH would have been better off to never have met our proposed new funders. A new clinic may open I think, in some form but I have no details as I’m not the N.P. there anymore.

To continue your care: Be sure to apply and keep your P4HB.org insurance active so you can see any local provider for your birth control and paps, etc. If you need your records, you can sign on to patientfusion to get a copy of your last pap/last depo, etc. if needed. If you can’t sign on have your new provider fax a request to 706-622-6682.

It has been an honor and a pleasure serving the women of Rome now for > 30 years: Kristen, Maggie and I will miss everyone very much!

You can get Plan B (the morning after pill ) on Amazon. There are several different names for generic brands of Plan B One Step medication that contain the same ingredients. (**please read the entire post**)

Plan B One‑Step is a progestin‑only emergency contraception product that helps prevent pregnancy when taken within 72 hours of unprotected s*x. It contains levonorgestrel 1.5 mg, the same active ingredient as regular birth control pills—just at a single, higher dose, and works by delaying ovulation. For more information about Plan B (and all other types of birth control) you can visit www.bedsider.org.
Ella is a slightly different type of emergency contraception. Ella may be more effective for overweight or obese women. Ella is more effective than progestin-only pills like Plan B One-Step and Take Action, --can be taken up to 5 days after s*x, when progestin-only EC may not be effective.

Women of W.O.R.T.H., Inc. is in the process of merging with the Family Health Centers of Georgia, Inc. The process is taking longer than expected due to things that are out of the health centers' hands. We will not be open again until March. If you need services, the Family Health Centers at Cobb is part of our network. They can provide the depo shot for $40 or less for those who have not yet gotten their depos. Their address is: 805 Campbell Hill Road, Marietta, GA 30060. Their telephone number is: (770) 919-0025. Your public health department can also provide birth control services and Pap smears. We are so sorry that we cannot serve you right now! You can email Kristen@WomenAreWorthIt.org with questions or call us at (706) 232-3408. When we open up again, we will be open more days a week and be able to provide even more services for a low cost.

Yesterday we saw a woman who has lived in the United States for years and finally became a legal resident two years ago, but she has to wait 3 more years to be eligible for Planning 4 Healthy Babies, the Medicaid program that pays for birth control, Pap smears and STD testing for women of reproductive age. She is in nursing school and is happy as a mother of three children. An Ob/Gyn office quoted her $3,000 to replace her IUD, a birth control that lasts 10 years. If she became pregnant, Medicaid would pay for her labor and delivery only--not prenatal care.

The HEAL Act would help address disparities in insurance coverage that may be putting immigrants' reproductive health at risk.
