Lung cancer often doesn’t cause symptoms until it’s advanced. But if found early through screening, it’s far more treatable.

Low-dose CT (LDCT) scans are a special type of imaging used to screen for lung cancer in high-risk patients before symptoms ever start. It’s quick, painless, and potentially lifesaving.

You may qualify for a low-dose lung cancer screening if you meet all of the following:

✔️ Age 50 – 77 years old with Medicare; 50 – 80 with private insurance
✔️ Asymptomatic (no signs or symptoms of lung cancer)
✔️ To***co smoking history of at least 20 pack years (one pack year = smoking one pack per day for one year; 1 pack = 20 ci******es)
✔️ Current smoker or one who has quit smoking within the last 15 years
✔️ Receives a written order for LDCT lung cancer screening

Exciting news in medical imaging!

GE HealthCare and Stanford Medicine are working together on a breakthrough in scan technology called total-body PET/CT. Imagine getting a single full-body scan: faster, with lower radiation, and more detailed than ever before!

While this technology is not yet available at our facility, it holds great promise for the future, helping doctors detect conditions like cancer, heart disease, and brain disorders earlier and more accurately. It could also make the experience smoother and quicker for patients of all ages, including children.

Myths we're not buying (and neither should you!):

MYTH: Imaging always exposes you to high levels of radiation.

FACT: Nope. Many scans (like MRI & ultrasound) use zero radiation, and others use very low, controlled doses.

MYTH: MRIs use radiation.

FACT: Not even a little. MRI = magnets + radio waves. No radiation here!

MYTH: You only need imaging done if something hurts.

FACT: Pain isn’t always the first sign something’s wrong. Imaging can also catch issues early!

MYTH: Radiologists just look at pictures all day.

FACT: Radiologists are doctors who interpret images and help guide your treatment.

MYTH: Imaging is painful.

It's — a perfect time to talk about the #1 threat to men’s health: coronary artery disease (CAD). CAD happens when plaque builds up in the arteries, reducing blood flow to the heart and increasing the risk of heart attack.

A Coronary Calcium Scoring exam is a quick, painless CT scan that detects plaque early—before symptoms appear. It helps assess your risk so you can take action sooner.

Major risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, and family history—and men are more likely to develop CAD at a younger age.
