Sitting may feel harmless, but spending long periods seated can place real strain on your spine over time.

The way you sit, move, and structure your day plays a bigger role in spinal health than most people realize. Small adjustments can help prevent ongoing discomfort and long-term issues.

A surgical milestone at Good Samaritan University Hospital.

On February 23, Dr. Daniel Choi performed the first procedure at the hospital using Medtronic’s O-arm™ Imaging System, an advanced imaging technology that allows surgeons to visualize spinal anatomy in real time during surgery.

The procedure was a minimally invasive navigated TLIF performed using intraoperative 3D imaging and StealthStation™ navigation. Dr. Choi was assisted by Dr. Justin Ledesma of Spine Medicine & Surgery of Long Island.

Advances in surgical imaging and navigation continue to support more precise spine procedures and minimally invasive approaches.

In 2021, NHL star Jack Eichel was diagnosed with a cervical disc herniation.

Instead of the traditional fusion surgery, he became the first player in NHL history to undergo cervical total disc replacement, a procedure designed to preserve motion in the spine.

He returned to the ice the following season.

Years later, he helped lead Team USA to Olympic gold.

His decision sparked a larger conversation about motion-preserving spine surgery and how treatment options for cervical disc injuries are evolving.

When a spinal disc is too damaged to function properly, it may need to be removed to relieve pressure on the nerves.

Lumbar disc replacement allows surgeons to remove the damaged disc, relieve back and leg pain, and place an implant designed to mimic the spine’s natural motion.

Dr. Courtney Toombs explains how this motion-preserving option can benefit carefully selected patients.

Numbness in your hands.
Tingling in your arms.
Pins and needles in your feet.

It’s easy to brush it off. But when those symptoms persist, they can sometimes be coming from the spine.

Dr. Daniel Choi explains how issues in the cervical spine or lumbar spine can cause numbness in the arms or legs, and why a proper evaluation matters since not all numbness is the same.

If it’s happening more often, it’s worth understanding why.

If walking feels more tiring than it used to, you’re not imagining it.

For many adults, gradual leg heaviness, fatigue, or needing to lean forward can be signs of spinal stenosis, a common age-related condition.

Dr. Antigone Argyriou explains why it develops over time and how treatment options, including minimally invasive approaches, can help relieve pressure on the nerves.

If your walking tolerance has changed, understanding the cause is an important first step.
