Cervical radiculopathy is a condition caused by compression or irritation of a nerve in the neck. It can lead to radiating pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that travels down the arm and into the fingers.

Many people confuse it with muscle strain or even carpal tunnel, but the root cause often starts in the cervical spine.

At Spine Medicine & Surgery of Long Island, we offer diagnostic imaging and minimally invasive pain management to help relieve symptoms and restore mobility without surgery.

Did you know?

You can actually wake up as much as half an inch taller.

While you sleep, your spinal discs rehydrate and plump up, acting like tiny shock absorbers. Throughout the day, gravity gradually compresses your spine — so by evening, you’re just a bit shorter than you were that morning.

So if you’re planning a height check or a modeling gig, schedule it earlier in the day for that extra boost.

A first for endoscopic spine surgery, led by Dr. Choi.

We’re proud to share that Dr. Daniel E. Choi, MD, FAAOS, recently performed the first implantation of the Barricaid® Annular Closure Device using an endoscopic approach at Gramercy Surgery Center in New York.

Using Amplify Surgical’s dualPortal® system, Dr. Choi maintained direct visualization throughout the discectomy and achieved seamless delivery of the Barricaid device — a major step forward in minimally invasive spine care. Dr. Choi called the technique “the next advancement in patient care,” emphasizing its potential to improve outcomes without adding complexity to the procedure.

According to Jacob Einhorn, CTO of Intrinsic Therapeutics, “No changes to instruments or steps were needed,” underscoring the compatibility of Barricaid with endoscopic techniques.

This milestone demonstrates how innovation in technique and technology can come together to help reduce reherniation and reoperation risk — offering better solutions for both surgeons and patients.

Dr. Choi just returned from the Spine, Ortho & Pain Management-Driven ASC Conference in Chicago — hands down one of the most valuable events for anyone navigating the business of medicine.

The highlight of the meeting (and the year for Dr. Choi) was joining a keynote panel moderated by Scott Becker:
“The Time to Save American Healthcare is Now: Strategies to Restore Physician Autonomy and the Free Market in Healthcare.”

Dr. Choi shared, “It was a privilege to speak alongside my fellow Doctors Lounge podcast co-founders — neurosurgeon Dr. Anthony DiGiorgio, cardiologist Dr. Anish Koka, and healthcare investor Dutch Rojas — as we shared our vision for restoring physician-led care in America.”

The conference also featured exclusive conversations with keynote speakers like Doc Rivers and Lance Armstrong, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

From the SpineMed team, thank you to Scott Becker for creating a space where forward-thinking physician leaders can connect, collaborate, and speak openly about the future of healthcare.

Spine Medicine & Surgery of Long Island was proud to support the 2025 John Thomas Golf Classic as this year’s AV sponsor.

Hosted by the Help America Hear Foundation, the event raises funds to provide hearing aids to individuals who may not otherwise have access. Supporting charitable causes that promote health, inclusion, and dignity is an important part of how we show up for our community—both inside and outside the clinic.

We were honored to be part of such a meaningful day.
