Today we close Village Speech Therapy, PLLC.

Thank you.
For cheering me on as I started.
For helping me grow so quickly.
For letting me be a part of your village.

I have had the opportunity to learn so much, meet so many amazing people and grow as a clinician and as an individual. I truly don't have words as I close the doors on this chapter other than THANK YOU.

If you are in need of speech-language therapy services, I do have some referral resources I can share. Feel free to reach out if you'd like any information.

It is with a heavy heart and much consideration that we share this information. We sent this letter to our clients this morning and are letting the public know, as well.

We cannot thank everyone enough for the outpouring of support we have received over the last year of business. We hope the absolute best for our clients and families.

Being face-to-face can take many different forms, such as sitting on the floor, picking up your child, placing them in your lap, etc.

When you get face-to-face with your baby or toddler:

🟢It conveys to them that you are paying attention to what they are saying and doing

đź”´Your child can hear and see directly how you pronounce certain sounds and words

🟢You are able to closely see their communicative attempts, such as word approximations, eye gaze, or facial expressions, so you can respond more to these communicative attempts

It’s gingerbread week at the Village!

We made gingerbread cloud dough and have been playing with it to make gingerbread cookies! We’ve got lots of things to decorate them with and have had lots of fun being holiday bakers! 🧑🏻‍🍳

🎶We also have been singing a fun gingerbread song by and using the story pieces to work on vocabulary and story retelling. We’ve added some new fun sensory toys, too!

By giving children choice questions, we are modeling possible target words for them to copy. "Sammy, do you want the airplane or the truck?" is one example of this. The prospective words —"truck" or "airplane"—are heard by the child. Since they require the child to extract and recall a term from memory, open-ended questions such as "What do you want to play with?" can be more difficult for them. Offering options not only facilitates imitation and repetition, but also enables them to gesture or point.

Today’s Tuesday tip is to... Keep it simple.

Try simplifying things by breaking them down into smaller, simpler steps instead of saying something like, "Take your toothbrush upstairs, get your coat and shoes, and wait for me by the door"? "Get your coat and shoes," "Take your toothbrush upstairs, and then "Please wait by the door.

Children can process this shorter information much more easily, and you may gradually increase the amount of information you provide them at a time. Unsure of how much to say all at once? Try speaking at a similar length to theirs and then adding just a tiny bit more.

Children use single words; you use 1-2 words at a time.

When a child uses two words together, you use 2-3 word phrases.

When a child uses short phrases, you use a slightly longer one.

When a child uses full sentences, you start joining two short sentences together with words like 'and','so', 'and''but'.

Every child is different, so this is a guide only, but it will hopefully help you think about how you can simplify.
