Our “Maintainer Spotlight” for the month of February is Randall Homan

MAINTAINER SPOTLIGHT: Randall, depot mechanic in Grand Forks, N.D., has been with the Guardian Flight team since September 2022. He has always had a love for aviation, beginning when he was a kid playing with remote control airplanes. He studied at Texas State Technical College for Aviation Maintenance Technology and Telecommunications, with a specialty in avionics.

The best advice he can give to young people interested in joining the field would be to pursue a reputable college program for aviation maintenance or to join an apprenticeship at a company such as Guardian Flight. Your goal should be to learn all you can on as many different airframes and powerplants as possible.

Randall is very flexible with his time and is always adapting to change to meet the needs within his fleet. He strives to do the best quality of work in a safe and timely manner. Additionally, his attention to detail makes him a great asset to the facility and the company as a whole.

Our “Maintainer Spotlight” for September is Mike Williams.

MAINTAINER SPOTLIGHT: Mike, Midwest roving mechanic, has been with Guardian nearly four years. He services aircraft in North Dakota, Minnesota and Montana. He initially found his way to the profession back in 1989, and he has served as an aviation maintenance technician ever since. Prior to his time with Guardian, he spent 22 years as an AMT contractor for the North Dakota Army National Guard in Bismarck. He feels that was a great entry into the field, as he was able to work with different type of aircraft, while being part of important missions.

He has carried that same mindset into his work with Guardian, as he enjoys what he does and gets to help the mission of providing care at a moment’s notice. Mike consistently strives to promote teamwork among all employees. He is always willing to travel or help out wherever needed. He consistently promotes, creates and supports an environment where all employees feel comfortable asking questions.

Today, Guardian Flight would like to remind everyone of the importance of the phone number to call for emergencies. Calling 911 is an essential way to get medical attention, and it is just as important to know when it is appropriate to call. Guardian encourages Roseau area residents to keep the following tips in mind when deciding to call 911.

• Call 911 only for emergencies. Emergencies are situations that require immediate medical attention. Those include bleeding that does not stop, large wounds or burns, loss of consciousness, choking or trouble breathing, asthma or allergy attacks, heart attacks and stroke, among others.

• Give clear and detailed information. A 911 emergency dispatcher will ask you to describe the situation. Give as much information as possible about how the incident occurred and what happened, so they can determine which emergency personnel would be best to send.

• Don’t hang up. When on the phone with a 911 dispatcher, don’t hang up unless the dispatcher tells you to, as they may require additional information about the incident.

• Don’t call 911 for non-emergencies, including minor illness or injury — such as a cold or a sprained ankle — or for pets or when the power is out.

For this month’s “Maintainer Spotlight”, we are proud to recognize Michael Aasen.

MAINTAINER SPOTLIGHT: Michael Aasen, quality control inspector in Grand Forks, N.D., is approaching the two-year mark as a member of our Guardian Flight family. His favorite thing about his current role is the dynamic day-to-day. He never tires of rising to the challenges and immense responsibility that the position demands. Mike spent 20 years with a family-owned agricultural operation before coming to Guardian. At first he wasn’t sure if working for such a large company would suit him, but he now considers it the best decision he ever made. He feels it is a privilege to be a member of such a gifted team.

When Mike was a child, his dad had an airplane and a passion for aviation, which is what inspired Mike to pursue a career in aviation. After a few years in the industry, he decided to earn his Inspection Authorization license, which he feels has opened up more opportunities for advancement in his career. Mike's advice to anyone interested in pursuing a career as an Aviation Maintenance Technician is to stick with it. School can seem overwhelming, especially during the first couple years, but many quality career paths arise after graduation.
