Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses has been in the funeral business for over 100 years. With an immense amount of experience, they are dedicated to each family that walks in the door. They know that your loved one only gets one end-of-life service, and they want to honor your wishes for that celebration. The staff is known for their wide array of flowers and décor to design an event specific to your bel

oved style. The funeral planning staff can take the stress of planning off of your hands and work to create a memorable and fitting event. Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses is a full-service funeral home. Along with traditional funeral options, they also offer cremation services. A direct cremation is without a service, and many families choose this option for its affordability. When you do not have a formal ceremony, you can still gather friends and family in a special place for a scattering of ashes or to share memories. A cremation with a memorial ceremony is also a popular choice. And the memorial can be scheduled at the convenience of the family, with the urn on display if desired. There is no urgent timeline with a memorial as there is no burial timeline to follow. Aside from the formal options, life celebrations can be arranged with music, dancing, food, hobby displays, and more. Any service can be customized to create a unique event in which family and friends can pay their final respects. Veteran services and military honors can be part of the package if applicable. Be sure to reach out to the team if you have a need for grief resources to help you through the mourning process. Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses proudly serves the communities of Roseburg, Winston, Sutherlin, Elkton, Drain, Glide, Yoncalla, Myrtle Creek, Canyonville, and Riddle. You can purchase funeral products directly through the funeral home, like caskets, urns, vaults, and more. Pre-need funeral services are available if you are ready to get plans in place for a funeral that may be years away. Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses is located at 965 W Harvard Ave Roseburg, OR 97471. You can call to set up your first appointment: (541) 673-4455.

Joel Michael Dillon

April 5, 1982 - July 21, 2025

Joel Michael Dillon, 43, of Roseburg, Oregon-formerly of Greenville, Ohio-passed away on July 21, 2025.

Born in Greenville on April 5, 1982, Joel was the son of John and Darlene Dillon, and brother to Rosie Fields, Jennie Dillon, and Adam Dillon. He graduated from Greenville High School in 2000 and attended the University of Toledo in Ohio.

Joel had a deep love for the outdoors and a lifelong passion for living simply and in harmony with nature. He worked in carpentry and landscaping and found peace working with his hands and being in the natural world.

He had a true talent for fixing things-especially vehicles and engines. He loved taking things apart, figuring out how they worked, and putting them back together better than before. Music was another part of Joel's life that brought him comfort and joy, and his guitar was never far from reach.

Life wasn't always easy for Joel, but he never stopped searching for peace. His struggles did not define him-he was thoughtful, curious, and kind at heart. He will be remembered for his quiet nature, creative spirit, and the way he found meaning in the simple things.

Joel will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and cared for him.

"And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul." -John Muir

Milton L. Bartholomew Sr

Milton (“M.L.”) (“Bart”) Lee Bartholomew, Sr., passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at The Meadows Community Living Center at the VA in Roseburg, Oregon. He was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Iliff, Colorado, to parents, Leamon and Hattie (Gabel) Bartholomew, and shortly after the family moved to Jerome, Idaho.

M.L. attended school through high school in Jerome until being drafted into the service at age 17. He served during WWII in the US Navy from January 1945 to July 1946. After the war, he returned to farming in Jerome, where he met his wife, Gladys (Albers). They married on June 10, 1947, and began their life together (spanning 64 years) and started their family.

His years in Jerome were spent farming and working at the livestock auctions in Jerome and Twin Falls. In August of 1961, he moved his family to Roseburg, Oregon. He then went back to Jerome to finish out the harvest season, after which he returned to join the family in Roseburg in late Fall. Once in Oregon, M.L. started out working as a roofer/handyman. He and Gladys also operated Bart’s Kennel from December 1961 through June 1976. During this time, M.L. began his career at the VA working in food service and continued there until his retirement in 1989 after 27 years of service. After retirement from the VA, Milton worked for a few years as a flagger for Carson Paving & Sealing, Inc.

He and Gladys welcomed other family members and children into their home, serving as foster parents to several children during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, helping raise nephews Ray Miller and Craig Miller as “sons” who joined the household after their parents passed away.

He is survived by sister, Jeanne Altman, daughters, Sheryl Carson and Sharon Hervey (Gregg); son Lee Bartholomew; special nephew Ray Miller (Penny); grandchildren Mike Bartholomew, Sheri Carson, Dan Carson (Carrie), Jason Ho**er, Josh Bartholomew, Jacob Bartholomew (Megan), Sam Hervey (Jessica), Ben Hervey (Josie) and Isabelle Hervey; 14 great-grandchildren; special great-nieces Sarah Miller (Blake) and Jessica Herceg (Mark) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys; parents Lee and Hattie; grandparents Arthur and Irene (Williams) Bartholomew and Ephriam and Leah (Koenig) Gabel; sons Daniel Bartholomew and Milton Bartholomew Jr.; son-in-law Murle Carson; special nephew Craig Miller; special nieces by marriage Janice Miller and Helen Miller; sisters Dorothy Ambrose, Arlyane Andrus, Bernadine Miller; brother Bill Bartholomew.

M.L. was a member of the American Legion and the Three Pines Water District. He enjoyed attending auctions and animals – especially horses, cattle, birds, fish, and his childhood dog “Tatters”.

M.L. was always good to help others. He was known to be quite a prankster and very creative with his lyrics to songs. M.L. loved his family, adored his grandkids and great-grandkids, and loved to tease them, enjoyed card and dice games, and loved playing his harmonica. He will be missed more than words can say.

We’d like to thank Deb Koopman, NP, his wonderful caregivers Jason Ho**er, Heather Colton, Marcia Hester, Vera Shelton, and the amazing staff at The Meadows at the VA.

A military service is planned for 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, at the VA National Cemetery Annex (on the VA Campus). Interment will follow at Roseburg Memorial Gardens after the service. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in M.L.’s name.
