We recently did our first TCAR (Trans-Carotid Artery Revascularization) procedure! This is a minimally invasive procedure to treat carotid artery’s disease in high risk patients and prevent future stroke.

Peripheral artery disease

Much like many other common diseases, peripheral artery disease (PAD) shows no favorites among patients and can affect anyone and everyone. In fact, statistics from the American Heart Association (AHA) estimate that PAD affects over 8.5 million Americans and over 200 million people nationwide (not including a suspected large number of undiagnosed cases). Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm – The triple A to avoid

Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) are typically caused by progressive weakening of the aortic wall that creates a “ballooning” of the blood vessel. While most aneurysms are asymptomatic, they may expand in size and eventually rupture if not diagnosed and treated. Smoking Impacts PAD

A recent study found that cigarette smoking not only boosts the risk of peripheral artery disease (PAD), but this elevated risk can persist up to 30 years after smoking cessation. The study also evidenced that the link between smoking and peripheral artery disease was even stronger than the established link between coronary heart disease and stroke. Cartoid Artery Disease

In much the same way that dental plaque can build up on teeth, another type of plaque can build up within carotid arteries. The main difference, however, is that dental plaque can be seen and removed at regular check-ups, whereas carotid artery plaque can silently build up until it causes a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or stroke.
