On this World NGO Day, taking a moment to recognize the labor of love that has been the Youth Wellness Camp for my parents Dr. Alpana and Dinesh Gandhi over the past nearly 20 years. The YWC supported by NGO Yuva Pragati and the Sister Nivedita School has been a long term project to improve the health, education, living standards, and well-being of hundreds of village children and students in the regions around Rajkot, Gujarat. These youngsters make up the future of India. Here I’m with Dr. Gandhi 😄 in a computer lab built in 2017 dedicated to my grandparents Ajitbhai and Menaben Desai, who walked alongside MK Gandhi during Satyagraha in the 1940’s. This long overdue trip for me was getting back to the roots in so many ways. Life personal and professional comes at you really fast. Sometimes you have to hit pause and invite in these experiences, the ones where we find deep meaning in timeless places. More to come in my story from this incredible experience 🙏🏼🇮🇳

Well It’s official. Say hello to New York City’s newest assistant sound engineer ‼️who started full time with this week. Artist House is Manhattan’s largest recording studio hosting the top musical artists of our time. So excited for what’s ahead for our girl 👧🏻 - that is, lots and lots of hard work, putting in the dues, and career building 👏🏼 Your success and dedication coming to life in this new role! So proud, Love you buddy!

The photo pretty well sums how we felt in this moment - blurry and bleary eyed 😆 after a long (but accomplished!) week for both of us. This young lady just finished her last college exams and I am 🤯. We also reminisced my last set of finals exactly 30 years ago, and walking out to a perfect snow covered campus . Another chapter closes for the Gandhi’s in NYC - and a new one begins 🤩 as she has been quietly shaping her future the last couple years in the City’s music industry. That future is now - so proud buddy 🥹

Excited to share a new multidisciplinary collaboration we launched this weekend - the Ukraine Facial Reconstruction Initiative (UFRI) - a project months in the making and spearheaded by facial plastic surgeons .sureshmohan and . An 18 month webinar series taught by civilian and military medicine world experts focused on current knowledge and technology for optimizing facial reconstructive surgery outcomes for the war wounded in Ukraine. This program directly supports their doctors in training — and the medical teams aiding injured soldiers of the Armed Forces. This program complements the knowledge exchange and skills transfer from multiple travel teams throughout the year. Honored to help organize and develop the module on orbital reconstruction, and give the opening talk on Orbital Trauma: Surgical Approaches and Fundamentals, with case discussions by Dr. Yarema Vares (OMFS) .center. This program is in collaboration with multiple societies and NGO’s including .for.ukraine .center and others. My “Orbit” 🤩 Indian weddings are a celebration of family, traditions, love, life, and (so much) laughter. What a memorable summer of gatherings to welcome new family - and new babies soon to enter the world - we are blessed! As the summer quickly winds to a close, appreciative of all the times we had for everyone to come together 🙏🏼

Riobamba, Ecuador 🇪🇨 July 2025 ~ Yesterday was Non-Profit Day, and this past weekend the Global Ophthalmology Summit in Chicago. We would be remiss to not take this opportunity to thank the numerous Non-Profits and NGO’s that supported through funding or logistics our recent Ophthalmology 👁️ surgical & teaching mission trip to the Chimborazo province of central Ecuador - bringing strabismus (ocular alignment surgery) and oculofacial plastics (eyelid, tear duct, periocular and facial reconstruction) to sustainably improve access to care for indigenous populations in the Andes. Huge thank you to the Partners for Andean Community Health, FIBUSPAM Foundation, AMB Foundation, ASOPRS Foundation, Dox Foundation, Making a Difference Foundation, SEE International, and Americares - all for the generous and timely support to make this endeavor possible. This was our 4th trip to Riobamba since 2019, each year has seen continued gains for the mission program and its reach, and I look forward to its growth in the years ahead. Global Ophthalmology is a collaboration made possible with Foundation and NGO support - along with individual donors and industry that partner with us directly - so thank you! We are grateful to continue this work and shepherd these goals forward - our new team: Dr. Lakshmi Swamy (Pediatric Ophthalmology), Dr. Caroline Chung (ASOPRS Fellow), Suki Tanaka CRNA, our student volunteers, and our incredible host team of doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at Hospital FIBUSPAM.
