A friend tagged me in this post this morning, and it instantly reminded me why I chose to step out on my own and start Healing Hands Wound Care. Although Lexington is no longer around in the nursing home setting, it was where I had my very first official wound care position. That organization believed in me, and because of that, I learned to believe in myself.

Years later, when I found myself working for a company that didn’t invest in its staff, I knew it was time to exit and build something of my own. Once you’ve experienced genuine—though not perfect—kindness and support in the workplace, you won’t accept anything less.

So thank you, Lexington Healthcare 😊 I pour into my staff the same way you once poured into me. 🫗

During a recent interview, I was asked about the intention behind creating Healing Hands Wound Care.

My intention has always been to build a place where wound care nurses can truly experience work–life balance and grow confidently in their specialty. At Healing Hands Wound Care, we create an environment where nurses can refine their skills without the constant fear of being pulled into unrelated tasks. When you take care of the people who take care of the patients, you create a space where expertise can flourish and be delivered at the bedside—ultimately reducing the number of patients suffering from painful and often embarrassing wounds.

Many wounds occur in the most intimate areas of the body. Wound care is more than treating a wound; it is caring for the whole person. Our work requires skill, privacy, dignity, and deep compassion, all while minimizing pain during an already difficult experience. I love wound care, and after 18 years in this specialty, it has given me just as much as I have given to it.
