🌸 Honoring Women’s History Month 🌸
we proudly recognize the life and legacy of Shirley Chisholm — a woman of courage, conviction, and historic impact.

In 1968, Shirley Chisholm became the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress. Just a few years later, in 1972, she made history again as the first Black woman to seek a major party’s nomination for President of the United States. She was “unbought and unbossed,” standing firmly for justice, education, and equal opportunity. Throughout her career, she championed the rights of women, children, and marginalized communities, paving the way for generations of leaders to follow.

Her life reminds us that true legacy is built through fearless determination, service to others, and the courage to stand for what is right — even when the path is not easy.

This month, we honor women whose strength and vision continue to shape history and inspire us all.

A trailblazer. A leader. A lasting legacy.

🌸 Honoring Women’s History Month 🌸
We celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of Henrietta Duterte — a funeral home owner, philanthropist, and abolitionist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

After her husband’s death, Henrietta Duterte took over the family funeral parlor, becoming the first American woman to operate such a business. Under her leadership, the funeral home earned a reputation for efficient service, essential before modern embalming, and grossed an estimated $8,000 per year (about $211,500 in 2017).
Duterte was also a courageous member of the Underground Railroad, using her business to assist fugitive slaves seeking freedom — often hiding them in coffins or disguising them within funeral processions.

Her success allowed her to give generously to her community, supporting the AME Church of St. Thomas, the Philadelphia Home for Aged and Infirm Colored Persons, and the Freedman’s Aid Society, which aided formerly enslaved people in Tennessee.
Her life reminds us that true legacy is built through courage, service, and a commitment to uplift others.

A trailblazer in Funeral Service. A philanthropist. An abolitionist. A life that continues to inspire.

🌸 Honoring Women’s History Month 🌸
We celebrate Aretha Franklin — the Queen of Soul, whose extraordinary voice, faith, and artistry transformed music and inspired generations.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Aretha Franklin grew up in the New Bethel Baptist Church, where her father, C.L. Franklin, was a prominent minister. Singing in church from a young age, she developed a profound connection to gospel music, which became the foundation for her legendary career.

Aretha broke barriers in the music industry as the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. She won 18 Grammy Awards, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and was named Billboard’s Greatest Female Artist of All Time. She also made history on the national stage, singing at the inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2009, sharing her powerful voice with the world at a moment of historic significance. Her music, deeply rooted in gospel and soul, gave voice to the struggles, hopes, and triumphs of Black America, inspiring countless people worldwide. Beyond her artistry, she was a committed advocate for civil rights and social justice, using her platform and her faith to uplift communities and encourage positive change.

Her life reminds us that talent, courage, and devotion to purpose can leave a legacy that endures far beyond a lifetime. A trailblazer. A voice of faith. A legacy of courage, excellence, and inspiration.

Honoring Women’s History Month 🌸
We honor the remarkable legacy of Willa Beatrice Player — a visionary educator, leader, and trailblazer who helped shape higher education in America.

Willa B. Player made history as the first woman president of a college in the United States to lead a historically Black institution when she became president of Bennett College in 1955. During her tenure, she strengthened academic excellence, broadened opportunities for students, and championed a culture of civic engagement. A passionate advocate for civil rights, she supported student activism and encouraged young people to use their voices for justice, equality, and progress. Her leadership demonstrated that education is not only a path to knowledge, but also a force for transformation and empowerment.

Her life reminds us that courage, conviction, and a commitment to lifting others are at the heart of lasting legacy.

An educator. A pioneer. A legacy that continues to inspire 🌺🕊️

🌸 Honoring Women’s History Month 🌸

We proudly honor Major Charity Adams Earley, a remarkable leader whose courage and dedication paved the way for countless women in the United States military.

Born in 1918, Major Adams made history as the first African American woman to serve as an officer in the Women's Army Corps during World War II. She commanded the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female unit sent overseas during the war. Under her leadership, the battalion efficiently managed an overwhelming backlog of mail, ensuring that soldiers received vital correspondence from home—a task critical to morale during a time of global conflict. Major Adams’ service exemplified leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment. Her achievements broke barriers, challenged societal norms, and opened doors for future generations of women and African American service members. She later continued her advocacy for equality in the military and education, leaving a legacy of courage and empowerment.

As we honor Women’s History Month, we remember Major Charity Adams not only for her historic accomplishments but also for her dedication to service and her enduring impact on the lives of others.

🌸 Honoring Women’s History Month 🌸

We honor the groundbreaking legacy of Hattie McDaniel — a woman whose talent and perseverance opened doors in American cinema.

In 1940, Hattie McDaniel became the first Black person to win an Academy Award for her role as Mammy in Gone with the Wind. Her historic achievement marked a pivotal moment in the entertainment industry, even as she faced the harsh realities of segregation and discrimination.

Despite barriers placed before her, she carried herself with dignity and professionalism, paving the way for generations of Black performers who followed. Her courage and excellence helped shift the narrative and expand opportunities in film and media.
Her life reminds us that even in the face of adversity, one voice, one talent, and one determined spirit can change history.

This month, we celebrate women whose strength and resilience continue to inspire progress and possibility.A pioneer. A trailblazer. A legacy remembered. 🌸🕊️

🌸 Honoring Women’s History Month 🌸
We honor the courage and legacy of Rosa Parks - A woman whose quiet strength changed the course of history.

On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus, sparking the Montgomery Bus Boycott and becoming a powerful symbol of the Civil Rights Movement. Her act of defiance was not just a single moment — it was the embodiment of a lifetime committed to justice, equality, and human dignity.
Throughout her life, Parks worked tirelessly as an activist, advocate, and mentor, promoting civil rights, voting rights, and social justice. She showed the world that courage can take many forms, and that one person’s steadfast principles can ignite lasting change.

Her life reminds us that legacy is built through courage, conviction, and the unwavering belief that every individual deserves respect and equality. A trailblazer. A changemaker. A life that continues to inspire. 🌸🕊️

🌸 Honoring Women’s History Month 🌸
During this month of reflection and celebration, we honor the remarkable life and legacy of Pastor Shirley Caesar, affectionately known as the “First Lady of Gospel.”

As a gospel recording artist, pastor, and community leader, she has used music not only as an art form, but as a vessel of healing, hope, and spiritual encouragement.

Her songs have comforted families in times of grief, strengthened believers in moments of trial, and brought generations together in praise. Through her ministry, she has demonstrated that faith, perseverance, and service create a legacy that endures far beyond a lifetime.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate women whose voices inspire, whose faith sustains, and whose lives leave an everlasting imprint on their communities.
