Inroads To Opportunities

Empowering people with disabilities in their pursuit of employment, independence and life skills. We have grown from serving 4 individuals to over 500 annually.

Occupational Center of Union County (OCUC) was founded in March of 1959 as a not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 agency serving the greater Union County area. We are committed to providing vocational preparation, transition from school to work, job placement and mental health services to individuals with all types of disabilities from ages 16 on up. We have established relationships with 100's of local businesses, schools, hospitals, community agencies, and families. Starting in 2015, we will be doing business as Inroads to Opportunities. Inroads is certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). We are an approved provider of the NJ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, the NJ Division of Development Disabilities and the Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. We are licensed by the state of New Jersey to provide mental health partial care services under the Division of Mental Health and Addictions Services. We are an approved Medicaid provider and an approved Employment Network under the Ticket to Work Social Security initiative.

Jennifer has been a dedicated member of the Inroads community for nine years, training and thriving in our Contract Packaging Program. Throughout her time with us, she has worked on a wide variety of projects for our business partners, consistently showing reliability, focus, and pride in everything she does.

What truly sets Jennifer apart is her bright spirit and positive attitude. She comes to work ready to learn, contribute, and support her teammates, bringing encouragement and kindness to everyone around her. Her commitment and enthusiasm make a meaningful impact each day on our campus.

🎄 Festival of Trees at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum 🎄

This month our Transition School-to-Work students showcased their creativity at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum Festival of Trees. They designed and decorated their very own themed tree titled “Twinkling Tree Tops.” ✨

From planning the layout to crafting ornaments and placing the final touches our students collaborated and brought their vision to life. Their tree now stands proudly among displays from other community groups across New Jersey.

We are so proud of their artistic talents, teamwork and holiday spirit. 💚

Our Transition students had an incredible time visiting Watchung Stables, one of Union County’s most beautiful and peaceful properties. Learning about horse care, exploring the grounds, and experiencing the calm, therapeutic environment is always a highlight for our students.

From brushing and feeding the horses to walking the trails and meeting the stable staff, every visit helps build confidence, connection, and hands-on learning outside the classroom.

We are so grateful for community partners who welcome our students and create meaningful experiences that support their growth and independence.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Broker/Owner Carol Ann Suddeath of RE/MAX Pinnacle for spending the past two weeks teaching our TransitionPLUS and Day Habilitation crews about:

🦃 Happy Thanksgiving from Inroads to Opportunities!

Last week, our DDD Program hosted our 2nd Annual Friendsgiving in the multipurpose room—bringing together friends, family, staff, and participants for food, fun, and celebration.

Our participants did an amazing job planning and decorating the space, as well as preparing a variety of muffins, fruit kabobs, and a beautiful vegetable platter for everyone to enjoy.

We also recognized several program participants who recently secured Competitive Integrated Employment—including Dominick V. and Cody A. 👏 We are so proud of your hard work and dedication!
