Inroads To Opportunities Empowering people with disabilities in their pursuit of employment, independence and life skills. We have grown from serving 4 individuals to over 500 annually.

Occupational Center of Union County (OCUC) was founded in March of 1959 as a not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 agency serving the greater Union County area. We are committed to providing vocational preparation, transition from school to work, job placement and mental health services to individuals with all types of disabilities from ages 16 on up. We have established relationships with 100's of local businesses, schools, hospitals, community agencies, and families. Starting in 2015, we will be doing business as Inroads to Opportunities. Inroads is certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). We are an approved provider of the NJ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, the NJ Division of Development Disabilities and the Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. We are licensed by the state of New Jersey to provide mental health partial care services under the Division of Mental Health and Addictions Services. We are an approved Medicaid provider and an approved Employment Network under the Ticket to Work Social Security initiative.

🎉 National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)

As we wrap up October, we’re proud to celebrate the incredible contributions of workers with disabilities and the employers who champion inclusive workplaces every day.

At Inroads to Opportunities, we believe that employment is empowerment. For over 65 years, we’ve helped individuals with disabilities prepare for, find, and thrive in meaningful jobs across New Jersey.

This month may be coming to an end — but our commitment to building pathways to independence and inclusion continues all year long. 💙

🌱 Our Garden Was Wounded, But Our Mission Grows On

This morning, we discovered that our “Inroads Grows” Garden—a space nurtured with love by program participants, staff, and volunteers—was vandalized.

For our community, this garden is so much more than plants and soil. It’s a classroom for learning responsibility and teamwork, a source of fresh food for our programs, and a peaceful place where individuals with disabilities take pride in watching something they’ve grown flourish.

While today’s discovery was heartbreaking, we know that resilience grows here too. The same hands that built this garden once will rebuild it again—with compassion, care, and community support.

Our TransitionPLUS crew recently spent the day at Watchung Stables, learning about animal care and stable management. Participants helped haul hay, explored how the horses are cared for, and gained hands-on experience in a unique work environment.

The TransitionPLUS Program supports young adults (ages 21–25) as they prepare for a life of independence and meaningful employment.
