Academy member Anjali Shah, MD, FAAPMR, recently traveled to Washington, DC, to meet with senior leadership for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and advocate for the need to expand access to power standing systems for patients in the Medicare program. Expanding access to these systems will dramatically improve the quality of life for PM&R patients who rely on mobility assistance.

This work builds off of earlier successful Academy advocacy to expand access to power seat elevation systems for Medicare patients.

AAPM&R's Position Statement on Opioid Prescribing was recently published in the PM&R Journal and reflects the Academy’s continued commitment to addressing evolving public health concerns.

The updated statement emphasizes addiction prevention, prioritizes functional improvement over pain relief, supports access to multimodal treatments and reinforces the importance of physician education and patient safety.
