🌟 Meet our February Volunteer Spotlight, Marcie! 🌟
Marcie started volunteering at Tower View when Chanel took over as she is Chanel's aunt/godmother! Marcie has a way with anyone she meets - to make them feel comfortable, welcomed, and makes sure that they have fun! Marcie loves Christmas time, so she always puts on fun entertainment during our Open House and makes sure Mr. & Mrs. Clause come to visit! Additionally, she volunteers alot with all of our Alzheimer's efforts! Thank you, Marcie!
💚 1) Why do you volunteer within the community and at TVAL?
"I believe that volunteering should be an essential part in all our lives. If you are intentional about it, it may be your "legacy." You never hear someone say "I remember how much money they had", but they will remember the kind things that you have done. That is why I have been an Eldorado Lion for 40 years and also volunteer at TVAL. They both make me feel good to make others feel good."
💚 2) Favorite/most memorable TVAL event you've volunteered for?
"I enjoy finding ways to incorporate Lions small group projects like making packets for the chicken dinner or making trick or treat goody bags with the residents. But Christmas has always been my thing. So for me it's organizing a Santa visit, bringing the residents through the Eldorado reverse parade, getting a group together to do an elfin' sing-along for their Open House or even getting our church to come over & sing Christmas carols. Every single one of these puts joy in the residents and that joy goes straight to my heart. My most amusing memory was one at their Alzheimer fundraiser, I hawked the crowd really hard to knock Rich Garb in the dunk tank, which made the event a lot of money."
💚 3) A TVAL resident that's impacted you during your time here?
"It all started with my dad being a resident there and that gave me the "other side" perspective. You are given the opportunity to grow & know each resident and your only goal is to make them smile. Now that he has passed, my goal is the same. I love Pauline's enthusiasm for life, I missed Jodi, I'm happy Marilyn has found a new friend, I enjoy visiting with Dave & Cindy, I'm happy that Eugene is happy, I love Karen's smile & giggle, Rita's spark and Donna's s***k and miss trying to make Sandy W smile. Each one is special and I know there are others that I need to get to know better."
💚 4) One thing on your bucket list?
"I am not sure I have one, but probably to take a little more ME time. I appreciate life one day at a time."
💚 5) Someone that inspires you in life?
"I would have to change the word inspires to inspired. Then I would say my mother, Dolores "Ma" Becker. She led by example and set the bar pretty high!!"
💚 6) Favorite quote?
""God Loves A Cheerful Giver" from 2 Corinthians in the Bible."
