Three things you can do to improve your child’s language skills!
1. Read books 📚
We’ve all heard that reading books with kids is beneficial for them, but have you ever thought about why? In addition to language development, reading books enhances memory, attention span and comprehension. Reading books familiarizes children with print concepts (reading left to right, page turning, introduces letters numbers, and shapes). Reading together provides a safe space for children to talk about new things and ask questions.
2. Sing Songs with Gestures
Singing simple songs builds a solid groundwork for new vocabulary, introduces grammar structure and boosts early literacy skills through rhymes and repetition. Using GESTURES WITH WORDS improves motor planning and coordination. And if that wasn’t good enough, it increases attention and engagement and promotes social interaction! You didn’t know there was so much going on when you were singing The Wheels on the Bus, did you?
3. Pretend Play
Benefits of pretend play are endless! It develops empathy and understanding of different perspectives, enhances problem-solving and critical thinking skills, builds social interaction, and boosts imagination! They can play doctor, vet, superheroes and princesses, playing house or teacher, restaurant or store!
