Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness.. The following is a portion of the transcript:
"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death.

Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air. You've stripped away our heritage, You've outlawed simple prayer. Now gunshots fill our classrooms, And precious children die. You seek for answers everywhere, And ask the question "Why?" You regulate restrictive laws, Through legislative creed. And yet you fail to understand, That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

The Creator of the Universe, who knows and loves us better than we know or love ourselves, left us a trustworthy book that reveals who He is, how to enter into an intimate relationship with Him, and how to live an abundant life here on Earth, followed by a perfect, eternal life when our souls leave our frail bodies. What an amazing gift! Scholars and historians have researched it and have verified its historicity and accuracy. It is the most important thing you'll ever read. It contains all the truth you need. And while you read what's in it, you have the opportunity to make the most important choice you will ever make: to believe in or reject the one triune God, revealed in its pages, the "I am" who has always existed before time, the Father, the Son (whose name is Jesus), and the Holy Spirit, three personalities, three identities, three sides of the ONE Holy God. It's full of facts and mysteries. If you choose to reject Him or to intentionally remain ignorant, He will respect and seal your decision. He won't make you remain in His presence forever. And you'll accept the eternal death penalty, separated from Him and every good and beautiful thing He ever created for us (including loving relationships.) If you chose to believe in Him and repent of your self-centered control, and you are open to receive His merciful gift of salvation, you'll become a new creation. When that happens you'll be filled with His Spirit and the overwhelming desire to serve and obey Him. And He will accept you into HIs perfect Paradise, to live forever face to face with HIm and angels, and all who have passed away loving and serving Him, throughout time. It's immature and unwise to judge people by petty, external stuff like their gender, style, skin-color. I hope I'm not judged by my externals, or "the color of [my] skin, but by the content of [my] character." Does that sound familiar? Dr. M.L. King knew that externals are not significant compared to values. My deep values align with values found throughout Scripture; and I will vote for the candidate/party whose POLICIES and PAST PERFORMANCE more closely align with Jesus' values. Unfortunately, neither of the individuals running for president live their lives in ways that overtly honor Christ; and so we are stuck voting for the one who used their authority in the White House to accomplish the most good for our country and the world. Staying silent because you don't like the candidate's personality is a big mistake. Not voting is actually voting for the other's ideology to lead this country and influence the world. Brave soldiers fought and died to give us the right to vote for our leaders. Please pray earnestly and use your voting rights to influence the world in a way that will most honor Jesus Christ. And then rest in the knowledge that you were faithful and that God is ultimately in control of our future.

Here is the truth about Proposition 3, the so-called "Freedom to Marry" initiative. Supporters say it updates our constitution to match current laws, but it actually changes the definition of marriage in ways that are dangerous to women and children.
The big problem with Proposition 3 is that it overrides all laws on marriage. In it, a "fundamental right" to marry means it would remove protections against child marriages, in**st, and polygamy.
You may hear we need this measure to protect against possible, radically conservative, Supreme Court decisions. But same-sex marriage has been legal across the country since 2015. Proposition 3 is fixing a problem that doesn't exist and is instead causing HARM. Current laws and court decisions already protect the right to marry, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, or ethnicity. These laws also protect children, prevent exploitation, and keep marriage as a union between two consenting adults. But Proposition 3 would REMOVE these defenses.
Instead of protecting civil rights in California, this measure risks the civil rights of children. It even opens the door to polygamy—marriage between more than two people. This would only exploit vulnerable women and children.
It removes important protections for marriage while pretending to expand rights. We can protect marriage and civil rights without allowing child brides, in**st, and polygamy. Vote NO on Proposition 3 to keep common-sense marriage rules and protect our children, families, and society.

Our hope does not lie in elections or politicians. Yes, our country is in desperate need of great leadership; but no human will bring us to the place we need to be. Only the King of every King there ever was, the Lord of lords, the Holy Creator of the Universe can save us from the corruption, evil and deception we live in. We are all in trouble. The solutions will never be found in politics, cultural change or religion. Jesus Christ, God with skin on, sacrificed his life on a filthy cross and went through hell and back, just so anyone who will accept His free gift of salvation can become truly alive, eternally. Only those who trust the Messiah, obey Him, love and follow Him will become a brand new (clean, forgiven, innocent, free) creation. Only those who become His profound friend, empowered by His Holy Spirit will live WITH HIM forever in perfection, even after our bodies have rotted away. But everyone who refuses to submit to Christ will live forever separated from God Himself, from every other person, and from every good and beautiful thing God has created. That's not what He wants for any of us, but He will respect our rejection of Him, His Word, and His ways. He actually adores you and me, despite our guilty status. Our singular hope is, individually, to let go of our self-centeredness, and to submit to the only One who has the actual power to win the spiritual war in which we live every single day, here on this temporary earth. Some day EVERY knee will bow and EVERY tongue WILL confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. That includes the most adamant Atheist and worst sociopathic murderer. Jesus' death and resurrection is for ALL of us who are willing to turn away from our independent rebellion, and submit to Him.
I implore you, please repent and embrace this Truth that sets you free while you still have the chance to bow of your own volition, rather than waiting until you are forced to bow in acknowledgement of His Holy Kingship. There WILL come a day in the future when the whole Truth is revealed, either when your body wears out, or when Jesus Christ returns in glory, and this temporary earth is destroyed. Then you'll no longer have the opportunity to be saved. You will be forced to realize and regret. You be forced to bow unwillingly, and God will honor your heart's decision to reject Him... forever. After that, there are no second chances. Please research His Words in the Bible. Start with the book of John. He is ready to embrace you and forgive you.
