Amazing testimony from a very sweet family! ❤️
** The Amesbury Family & Elliot's Tongue Tie Story **
Mama Chelsey first visited us during her pregnancy with Elliot, seeking care to support her journey. After Elliot was born, she brought him in as well, and soon, the whole family was getting adjusted! 👶✨
We love caring for growing families and are so grateful when you share your experiences. Chelsey was kind enough to leave us a review, and we’re excited to share her story with you! 💕
"My son, Elliot, was born three weeks early, completely healthy but ended in a c-section due to him being head down but face up. He latched right after birth but after weeks we realized that Elliot wasn’t transferring the milk adequately. At our check-ups, the pediatrician wasn’t satisfied with Elliot’s weight gain so we were sent to UC Davis for “failure to thrive”. I had originally reached out to Dr. Maria due to Elliot being transversed in the womb, but after being sent to UC Davis and coming home with no real clear diagnosis or plan other than he had a tongue tie and a high pallet and to feed him formula and feed it often - I decided to bring Elliot back to Dr. Maria to see what else she could do.
[side note- after 1 visit to Dr. Maria during pregnancy, baby turned THAT NIGHT and moved more freely in womb from then on.]
I wouldn’t say that my husband and I were anti-tongue-tie procedure but we really wanted to try everything in our power to not have to put Elliot and ourselves through it if we didn’t have to.
With that being said, at 4 months old, every feeding became miserable for everyone involved. He would swallow so much air and spit up everything he ate. After working with Shanee at Faithful Lactation we were desperate for some relief so we made the appointment with Dr. Crutchfield’s office.
I was so nervous going into the surgery but I trusted my team (Dr. Maria at Bee Well Chiro and Shanee at Faithful Lactation Support). I also had a friend reach out and say “they scare you with all the exercises, but I would do it a thousand times over”. It was really what my ears needed to hear. Dr. Crutchfield ended up having to release Elliot’s tongue, cheeks as well as his lip. I sat in the recovery room thinking “what have I done?”
That night Elliot was a different baby. You could tell he was finally feeling satisfied from food even though he was slightly uncomfortable. We had to re-stretch his tongue for symmetry the second day but those two days were the worst for us. We all got used to the stretches and each day got easier and easier.
I’ve heard of other babies having their tongue ties released but I believe it was the strengthening exercises pre and post surgery that make a huge difference.
Getting chiropractic care was the best decision of my mom-life."
