Massage Services 101: What you need to know!
Few things are as relaxing as a good massage, and the City of Roseville is proud of its many legitimate massage businesses! While we support the numerous lawful businesses in our city, RPD encourages you to learn how to identify a legitimate massage business, as illicit ones can have negative impacts on our local businesses and communities.
8 ways to ensure a massage provider is legitimate:
1) Roseville requires all massage businesses to have a massage business permit, and it must be displayed in a place it can be easily seen.
2) Each massage therapist must be certified by the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC). The CAMTC certificate should also be displayed in the business. You can search for a CAMTC-certified massage professional on CAMTC’s website (🌐camtc.org) under "Verify Certification.”
3) The business lobby and common areas should have adequate lighting, and the lobby MUST be clearly visible from the exterior of the business at all times.
4) The facility is clean and sanitary. This includes the lobby, individual massage rooms, restrooms, massage tables, and all linens, towels, pillows.
5) While a mobile massage provider may come to you, massages may NOT be performed out of the therapist’s home.
6) Massage therapists should be dressed appropriately and cannot wear revealing, transparent, or other inappropriate attire.
7) A list of massages services and the associated costs must be displayed in the lobby.
8 ) When making the appointment or checking in, the massage business requests your name, address, and #.
The City of Roseville is dedicated to providing a safe and vibrant business community for its residents and visitors. If you suspect a massage business is operating illegitimately or is in violation of the City’s municipal code, we encourage you to report concerns to the Roseville Police Department (✉️Permitcoordinator@roseville.ca.us) and CAMTC (✉️complaints@camtc.org).
For businesses wanting to apply for a permit, you can find the application and ordinances (RMC Title 9, Chapter 9.10) on the RPD website:
