Join us for International Wave of Light.

October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. Light a candle at 7pm your own local time in remembrance of a precious baby or babies gone too soon.

October is Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month. It is a time dedicated to honoring and remembering the lives lost due to miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of an infant. It provides an opportunity for grieving families to share their stories, raise awareness about the impact of these losses, and foster a supportive community. The month also encourages greater understanding and compassion, while advocating for improved research, support services, and resources for those affected.

Here are 10 suggestions of what to say to a mother who has lost a child for Mother’s Day. No matter when their loss occurred, their baby matters to them.

1. "I’m thinking of you today and holding you in my heart."
– A gentle reminder that she’s not alone.
2. "Your love for your child is eternal and will always matter."
– Validates her ongoing bond and grief.
3. "You are and will always be a mother."
– Affirms her identity, which loss does not erase.
4. "I can’t imagine your pain, but I’m here to listen if you want to share."
– Opens the door for connection without pressure.
5. "Your child’s life made a difference and is not forgotten."
– Offers comfort that their memory lives on.
6. "If you’d like, I’d love to hear a memory about your child."
– Honors their life and creates space for remembrance.
7. "Today can be whatever you need it to be—quiet, loud, sacred, ordinary."
– Validates her choice in how to experience the day.
8. "There’s no timeline for grief. Take all the time you need."
– Reassures her that her feelings are valid, however long they last.
9. "I’m lighting a candle in your child’s memory today."
– A simple act of remembrance that can feel deeply meaningful.
10. "It’s okay to smile today. It’s okay to cry. And it’s okay to do both at the same time."
– Encourages emotional honesty and self-compassion.

Bereaved Mother's Day is to honor the women whose journey to motherhood was met with unmet hopes and expectations.

To the women who have endured pregnancy losses, infertility, hysterectomy in child-bearing years, child loss at any age: Your motherhood is not dependent on the number of children the world can see. A mother's heart beats for all her children.

You are still a mother.

Our beloved babies will always hold a special place in our hearts. We will always wonder what our lives would be like if they were here. We miss them. We long to know who they would have grown to be. Even though they are not here with us, our love for them will always remain.

To all the families who are missing their sweet Valentine today, we see you. We hope this day brings you gentleness, tenderness and love as your remember your baby today.

11 Years

Olivia Hope, the girl who started it all. 11 years ago our lives changed. Her life was brief but the magnitude of the impact she left behind we could not have imagined it ourselves.

11 years later and I am full of wonder and missing. I still wonder what she would be like today. 11 years later the intensity and rawness of grief has dissipated, yet I still sit in the tension of what I know was supposed to be and what is now. 11 years later, tears still flow remembering, longing and wondering. 11 years later, I can say with sincerity that despite the loss of Olivia, two more babies, my mom and father-in-law and a beloved aunt, our life is still good. Our pain was not wasted or for nothing. I can say this because in the midst of the heartaches, pain and grief, there is still hope. There is still good and beauty in and through it all. Thanks be to God for He is faithful.

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

The Founders of Our Little Sparrows

Hello, we are Geoff and Toni Brabec. We have been married over 11 years and our son James is 3 years old. James is our "Rainbow Baby," meaning that he is a successful birth after experiencing a loss of a baby. Our first born Olivia was born in 2013 on our 5th wedding anniversary. She did not survive past her birthday. In addition to the loss of Olivia, we have experienced two miscarriages with the most recent being March of 2018. We love and cherish all of our children but we would be remiss to not acknowledge the deep pain of loss that we experience as we journey through life. We grieve for them even as we write this. Through the experience of child loss both of us knew that we were forever changed and couldn’t go back to the way things were. We were challenged to find out what does God want from us through this experience. We felt called to serve other families in similar circumstances but without knowing how. Personally, we are drawn to serve expectant mothers who are faced with a challenging pregnancy that may or may not result in the loss of their baby. We are here to walk alongside mothers before, during and after no matter the outcome. We also desire to encourage those seeking support during a subsequent pregnancy after a loss, equipping them with the means necessary to guide them through delivery.
