Lunch tours are my personal favorite times to tour because you and our loved one can not only look at the menu but try the food.
Touring during activities is another favorite especially if your loved one is very social, have them join in playing bingo with the residents before or after checking out the rest of the community.
Mid afternoon is usually a good time to tour as activities are winding down and dinner hasn't started yet.
Unannounced tours or pop up tours are coming back as Covid restrictions wind down. Swinging by gives an authentic feel of how the community is being run when they weren't expecting you.
Morning and evening times are the busiest with staff getting residents ready for the day or to wind down for bed.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Moving a loved one into senior living is a huge transition and you deserve all the answers. Ask questions and then ask more. You are NOT bothering staff by asking questions and if they are bothered by them it’s probably not the right place for your loved one to be. Make sure you have all the information and your questions answered so you can make the best decision of where your loved one will call home and have a peace of mind after they’re move in. 🦋

Not every senior living community is made the same but all have amazing benefits. Choosing a community that best fits your loved ones preferences AND needs is important.
If they are social butterflies and thrive on daily activities, outing or other amenities such as a beauty parlors, fitness room, movie theater, pool etc. a larger assisted living community may be best.
However if they would prefer more of a homelike setting with a small group of housemates and individualized care with a 1:3 caregiver ratio a board and care home may be a better choice.
There are so many different senior community options. Some board and cares also offers daily activities, outings and have amenities.
