Pain Medicine: Patient Responsibility and Committment
Patients suffering from chronic pain, defined as pain lasting longer than 3 months, often feel misunderstood and can experience discrimination from family members, friends and even members of the medical community. This is due to the illusive nature of chronic pain, which involves varying levels physical damage (nociceptive pain) and nerve disorders (neuropathic pain). While cutting edge diagnostic images, such as MRIs, provide clues to the possible mechanisms of chronic pain, pinpointing both the source and severity of chronic pain requires a large degree of subjective input from patients, which is vulnerable to manipulation and therefore skepticism.
Unfortunately, in the absence of complete and definitive diagnostics, treating chronic pain is also an inexact science. With this in mind, the medical specialty known as Pain Medicine was born, combining the relevant areas of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Psychology, Pharmacology, Anesthesiology, and Neurology into a single, multi-disciplinary focus on investigating the sources and effective treatments of painful conditions.
Double Board Certified in Pain Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Kayvan Haddadan, M.D. formed Advanced Pain Diagnostic & Solutions to serve chronic pain patients and help them regain their dignity through responsibility and a commitment to functional improvement.
