My name is Joe Borders.
I'm a s*x positive LGBTQ therapist here in Roseville California.

I used to run a website called SacWellness. It was a site designed to help people get connected with mental health resources in the greater Sacramento area.

I spent a metric butt ton of time and money on this site and eventually decided to let it go in the beginning of 2023.

Although SacWellness is closed, you can find all of the resources that it used to house on my personal website.

I don't plan on monitoring this account any further. Please reach out to me through my website if you need me.

Hello everyone! ^_^
I've been struggling with deciding what to do with the site over the last year and I've come to the decision to close down the site.

You can read all about this here:
https://sacwellness.com/the-end-closing-down-sacwellness/

I will be phasing out the therapist directory section of the site over the next month and will be rehoming all of the other site content so that the community can still benefit from all the other resources I've compiled over the years.

Thank you for all your support over the years.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you might have about any of this ^_^

There is a hearing about this coming up on Wednesday December 7th. Check it out, learn more, and take action if you can.

Have you ever heard of Ketamine therapy? Its a relatively new treatment option for depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders that don't respond to more traditional therapies.

Ketamine therapy involves people going to a clinic and receiving doses of a drug called ketamine through multiple sessions. There have been many studies supporting this as a viable treatment option for some, and ketamine therapy has become more of a mainstream concept, with several clinics in the greater Sacramento area.

I've hear about this treatment option and have seen more and more talk about it in the local therapeutic community. I was curious and reached out to Propel Therapeutics - ketamine therapy to learn more.

In today's SacWellness article, Dr. Christopher Fischer, a local psychiatrist at Propel Therapeutics - ketamine therapy takes a deep dive into the mechanics of ketamine, how it works, and who might benefit from it.

A Sacramento Psychiatrist talks about Ketamine treatment for pain and mental health issues, how it works, and how it can help.

I've taken some time to create an anonymous survey to collect feedback about SacWellness. I've spent a lot of time on the site and I'm at a place where I'm wanting to evaluate it in some ways to help me decide how to proceed from here.

An update since I first wrote this article a little over a week ago.

After seeing episodes 4 and 5, the show has continued to be really good, emotional, and complicated. In continuing to view this show from the perspective of a therapist, I am appreciating more and more the way the focus seems to be shifting away from the personal growth of the subjects to Nathan's personal growth...or that of his character. As with so many other aspects of this show, this hits home as a therapist. I go to work everyday, help people with their issues, but there is always a part of me in the room too. Sometimes there is a part of me working through or touching on my own issues in some of the things I work on with my clients. At the end of the day, I am a wounded healer. I help others, but I also have my own issues, and like everyone else, I'm just trying to figure things out and pursue my own version of happiness.

I'm also struck by how Nathan is so deeply trying to understand the experience of his subjects. This week I found myself talking with my wife about how this is part of the idea behind therapists having their own therapists. True, part of the function of this is for the therapist to process their own issues, but also, its generally understood and expected that having the experience of being a client gives therapists insights into how the experience feels for their clients. The struggles, emotions, awkward interactions, vulnerability, all of it. Sometimes as therapists we get into the role and can forget what its actually like to be on the couch. Sometimes you truly have to walk the walk to talk the talk.

Have you seen The Rehearsal on HBO? I've been watching it recently and I'm really enjoying it. It's been interesting to watch with my wife and see how my reactions to it are different as a therapist.
I had to write about this.
If you haven't seen it. The Rehearsal is all about a comedian helping people confront big life challenges through creating giant, elaborate, over the top simulations of scenarios. Its kind of amazing and a therapist's dream.....and maybe nightmare.
