Previous research has shown that elevated blood glucose levels can damage blood vessels over time, increasing the risk of heart disease even before diabetes is formally diagnosed. A recent study found that individuals with prediabetes who normalized their blood sugar levels reduced their long-term risk of heart-related death or heart failure hospitalization by up to 58%.

Using data from the Health Behavior in School-aged Children study, researchers report that youths who engage in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity at least once a week have about an 11% lower likelihood of frequent backache compared with their inactive peers, and those who are physically active at least five times per week have about a 19% lower risk of frequent backache.

Chronic Respiratory Diseases Affect 1 in 15 People Worldwide.

Using data from the Global Burden of Disease Study, researchers estimate that approximately 569.2 million people worldwide are living with one or more chronic respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, pneumoconiosis, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary sarcoidosis. While genetic factors can influence susceptibility, experts note that long-term exposure to cigarette smoke, combustion-related air pollution, occupational dust and chemicals, allergens, mineral dust, and infections are primary drivers of poor lung health and disease exacerbations. Addressing these exposures could substantially improve respiratory health worldwide.
