For our Quarter One Livin’ The Dream signature program, we had two residents share the same dream — getting their very first tattoo! We made Darlene’s dream come true in January, and now we’ve completed Alice’s first tattoo as well.

Alice chose three doves — one for her mom, one for her dad, and one for her husband — symbolizing them all flying free together.

Moments like this are exactly why we do what we do. It’s never too late to dream or accomplish the goals you’ve held in your heart. Today was a beautiful reminder of that.

Twice a year, we host Scooter and Electric Wheelchair Safety classes for residents who own or operate one. Attendance is mandatory, and each participant completes a test at the end of the class.

Scooter and electric chair safety is essential — both within our retirement community and out in the surrounding areas. Accidents can happen quickly and, unfortunately, may result in serious injury or damage.

We offer this class to help ensure that our drivers stay safe while also protecting fellow residents, staff, and visitors. Safety is always our top priority

"Dementia isn't just a diagnosis – it's a family disease." 💙 This week, we revisit a popular episode where we talked with Dr. Brent P. Forester, geriatric psychiatrist at Tufts University School of Medicine and co-author of “The Complete Family Guide to Dementia.” He shares why early diagnosis matters, how to navigate the painful relationship shift with your loved one, and strategies to care smarter (not harder). This conversation offers the clarity and support every caregiver needs. If you're feeling overwhelmed, guilty, or alone in your caregiving journey, this episode is for you.

Earlier this month, we had the joy of putting together Valentine’s Day gift bags for a local kindergarten class at Martin Luther King Elementary. Each bag was filled with crafts, toys, snacks, and coloring books to help make the day extra special.

We even brought a couple of our residents along to personally hand out the bags to the kids. It was such a sweet morning, filled with smiles, laughter, and lots of love.

What does real memory care actually look like — and could it be the greatest act of love you give someone? In this heartfelt episode, host Dawn Platt sits down with Danielle, a daughter navigating one of the most difficult decisions a family can face: whether to transition her 84-year-old father, a retired NYPD officer with Alzheimer's, into a memory care community.

Dawn pulls back the curtain on Discovery Senior Living's GLOW Memory Care Program — a comprehensive, science-backed approach that goes far beyond basic care. From personalized programming rooted in each resident's unique life story, to specialized dining techniques, music therapy, legacy preservation, and 24/7 family collaboration, GLOW is redefining what it means to truly support someone living with dementia. If you've ever wondered how to honor the person your loved one has always been while keeping them safe, engaged, and deeply connected, this episode is for you.

Falls don't have to be inevitable, and the solution is simpler than you think. In this powerful finale to our January Wellness Series, Host Dawn Platt welcomes back Dr. Brittany Tallhamer, a physical and occupational therapist who has witnessed firsthand how movement can transform lives at any age or stage of dementia. Brittany shares the shocking truth about what happens when we stop moving, reveals how one bedbound patient walked 30 feet after just one week of therapy, and breaks down the exact exercises that help keep memory care residents not just safer, but more engaged. Tune in to learn why we don't lose mobility because we age; we age faster because we stop moving.

For this quarter’s Livin’ the Dream, we chose Darylene 💙

For years, Darylene admired the tattoos she saw on others, but more recently she became fascinated by the many tattoos she noticed while living at The Terraces. As times have changed and tattoos have become more popular and accepted, many staff members now have them. Darylene often mentioned how getting a tattoo would be a dream come true—but she was nervous about the pain and what others might think.

After about four years, Darylene came up to me and said she was ready, if the offer to make her dream come true was still available. I told her, of course it was—and that I would be so happy to make it happen.

With the blessing of her son, we took Darylene to our local tattoo shop, where McKenna sketched a few kitty face designs just for her. Darylene absolutely loves cats and currently feeds a couple of strays outside our community. She chose a black cat face to remind her of them 🐾

While we waited for the tattoo artist to set up, Darylene shared a story about her mom. She told me her mom always dreamed of riding a motorcycle, and when she turned 100, a group of bikers picked her up and took her for a ride on the back of a Harley Davidson to a biker club and then back home. “My mom was a bada**,” she said.

After Darylene finished her tattoo, she looked at me with a tear in her eye and said, “I’m a bada**, just like my mom.”
