Yesterday I spent the morning doing chair massage for the staff at my son’s school. I spent 4 hours of my time and saw 11 staff members. The feedback I heard throughout out the day was the best payment I could receive.
“I forgot I’m at work!”
“I didn’t realize how much I needed this.”
“I wish you were here everyday!”
And when I came back to pick up my son, I heard things like
“I have been walking on a cloud!”
“I feel so much less stressed.”
And my favorite…
“I came back to my classroom and a kid was having a behavior issue, and I was able to be so calm and just wait and relax until he was ready to talk.”
That right there. That’s why I do this work, and why I feel so strongly about its impact. Not just in the individual lives that I touch (literally and figuratively 😂). But in the ripple effect that this creates.
One teacher. Having a little more calm. And a better capacity to hold a container for the behaviors that WILL come up and do come up everyday.
That kid feels a little more safe. A little more connected to the trusted adults in his life. Now maybe that child will go home with a little more calm, and bring some of that into his family’s dynamic for the evening.
A few moments of calm in a child’s life can last a lifetime.
A few moments of calm for an adult can have the same ripple effect.
We all get stressed. We all have a limited capacity for patience. My goal with massage is to help you stretch that capacity, even just a little bit.
