Thinking about Minneapolis today and our siblings at MFE 59. We are with you and speak out against the chaos and bloodshed that occured.
Earlier today, in the midst of another escalation in the ongoing attack on our immigrant community in Minneapolis, Federal Law Enforcement murdered a Minneapolis neighbor, Renee Good.
The Minneapolis Federation of Educators strongly condemns ICE and all Federal Agencies complicit in this murder and the ongoing occupation of our communities.
We are grieving with the entirety of the Minneapolis community as we process this latest atrocity and send our deepest condolences to the victim, Renee Good, and her family. We remain in solidarity with our immigrant educators, family members, and the broader Minneapolis community against the aggression of Federal “Immigration Enforcement.”
Additionally, this afternoon ICE deployed tear gas during a site’s dismissal and abducted a MFE member who was doing their job supporting a safe dismissal process for their site. This member has since been released. We will not tolerate ICE inhibiting our city’s youth from their constitutional right to attend school safely or inhibiting educators from doing their job.
This is the moment to act. All MFE members and Minneapolis community members who have not done so already are encouraged to attend MONARCA upstander training and to become connected with their local community rapid response networks.
This is our home. These are our neighbors. This will not stop without all of us joining together.
WE keep us safe.
