Interested in PRF for your next dental procedure? Here’s a little more info on what it looks like!
When you arrive for your appointment, a nurse will take a small blood sample from your arm (similar to a routine blood test). This usually takes about 5–10 minutes and is generally comfortable. The blood is immediately placed in a centrifuge. Within 10–15 minutes, the machine separates the layers and the PRF clot is ready. Meanwhile, the dentist proceeds with the planned procedure (e.g., implant placement or extraction). As soon as the site is ready for closure or grafting, the PRF clot is applied. The dentist may trim the PRF to fit or blend it with bone graft. The PRF acts like a biologic bandage, providing an ideal wound seal. After the procedure, the post-operative care is very similar to standard protocol. Many patients notice reduced bleeding and swelling at the PRF-treated site. Because PRF releases healing factors over several days, patients often heal faster with less discomfort. Interested in learning more? Call 586-778-2100 today to schedule a consultation!
