In Loving Memory of Marlene Sue (Kaegi) Lewis
March 21, 1933 – August 31, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Marlene Sue (Kaegi) Lewis, who left this world peacefully on August 31, 2025, at the age of 92.
Marlene was born on March 21, 1933, to the late Barnerd and Hazel Kaegi. She was the youngest of four sisters, all of whom have also passed: Kathleen Jennings, Hazel Colbert, and Nadine Rutherford. Their bond was lifelong and cherished, and we find comfort in the thought of their joyful reunion.
Marlene’s life was marked by quiet strength, creativity, and unconditional love. She was a devoted mother to her three children: Mike Lewis of Cave in Rock, IL whose wife, Jolene, preceded Marlene in death; Mark Lewis of Cave in Rock, IL; and Susan (Darrick) Armstrong of Elizabethtown, IL.
She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and joy: Kelli Jo Lewis (Stan) Baize of Evansville, IN; Alli Armstrong (Jake) Vaughan of Fort Wayne, IN; and Adriana Armstrong (Garrett) Lane of Herod, IL. Marlene's wisdom and wit will live on in their hearts and memories.
A woman of many talents, Marlene had a deep love for reading, finding joy and comfort on shelves filled with her vast collection of books. She was a gifted artist and seamstress, expressing herself through beautiful works of creativity that reflected her spirit. Her green thumb was legendary and her flower gardens were a source of beauty for all who passed by.
Marlene’s legacy is one of love and resilience. She taught us the value of kindness, the power of patience, and the importance of savoring life’s simple pleasures. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for every moment we shared with her. Her spirit will continue to bloom in every flower and shine through every memory we hold dear.
A private family service will be held this fall to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant something beautiful in her memory or share a favorite book with someone you love.

Linda Diane Jackson, 67, of Elizabethtown, IL passed away August 18, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born January 8, 1958, in Gary, IN to Juanita Mathews and Williams E. Underdown. She was a member of Honeycomb Church of God in Herod, IL.
She is survived by her husband, James R. Jackson, Jr. of Elizabethtown, IL; daughter, Lisa (Floyd) Barnes of Elizabethtown, IL; son, David (Sammy) Jackson of Scott Air Force Base, IL; grandchildren, Alexa Barnes, Chloe Jackson and Caitlin Jackson; sisters, Kathy (Donnie) Vaughn of Elizabethtown, IL and Vicky (Kenny) Holloman of Rosiclare, IL; brothers, John Underdown of Marion, IL, Mike Underdown of Calvert City, KY, and Shane Shoupe of Golconda, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. Underdown and Juanita (Bob) Shoupe and sister, Thelma Atkinson.

David Bruce "Grandpa" Roberts, 84 years young, passed away peacefully in his home after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his son, a daughter, daughter-in-law and 2 grandsons. David was born November 11, 1940 in Shelbyville, IL to Rue and Sarah Roberts,
Survivors include his son, Scott (Cindy) Roberts; daughters, Sarah (John) Graff, Staci (Clyde) Bumgarner and Sheri Roberts; 16 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Fury and a grandchild, Amanda.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

Edna McConnell, 77, of Rosiclare, IL passed away Thursday August 14, 2025 at her home.

Survivors include her daughters, Sue McConnell of Benton, KY, Lacye Lembcke of Rosiclare, IL, son, Stephen McConnell, grandsons, Chris McConnell of Rosiclare, IL, Jeff McConnell of Kankakee, IL, 7 great grandsons, Johnny, Bennett, Conlen, Freddie, Hunter, Jayden, and Kyi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. McConnell, daughter, Laura Renee McConnell, and life partner, Donald Wynn.

She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Jack Summers; 2nd husband, Rev. Eschol Smith, Jr.; parents, John and Melissa Davis and brother, Jimmy Davis.

Survivors include her husband, Francis Stengel of Rosiclare, IL; children, Garry Stengel of Germany, Allen Stengel of Rosiclare, IL, Dale Stengel of Harrisburg, IL, Rose Stengel of Salem, KY; special daughter, Teresa Lynn Jackson; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sisters, Norma Lievers and Nina Ferrell and brother, Robert Hamp.

Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Darrin and Christina Davis of Elizabethtown, Il., son-in-law, Jimmy Dean Winders, Grandchildren, Joshua Davis, Jacobey Davis, Kelcie Winders, Dylan Davis, and Noah Winders, 9 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and ClettaLievers, Husband Jim Davis, Daughter, Gina Winders, and sisters, Lou Ann Conkle and Bonnie Joiner.

Laura Elizabeth "Cissy" Reed, 90, of Rosiclare, IL passed away May 18, 2025 at Hardin County General Hospital. She was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church. Cissy worked in the restaurant business, serving Hardin County for numerous years. Everyone knew Cissy's pizza. She also loved her cat Grey Boy as well as gardening and taking care of her roses.
In 1956 Cissy married Bobby G. Reed and to this union was born 2 children, Rita (Garry) Warren of Elizabethtown, IL and Wesley (Sonya) Reed of Johnston City, IL. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Shannon (Brian) Palmer, Brock (Jennifer) Warren, Curtis Reed and Jesse Reed and great grandchildren, Cori (Bryce) Flatt, Cameron Jackson, Finn Palmer, Jett Palmer, Caleb Warren, Logan Warren, Logan Reed and Christopher Reed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Hazel Boyd; great grandson, Wyatt Dalton Reed; brother, Robert Boyd and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services are scheduled for 2 PM Sunday May 25, 2025 at Hardin County Funeral Service in Rosiclare, IL with interment in Peters Creek Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from Noon Sunday until service time at the funeral home.
