Although exercise can decrease your chance of dementia, and even stop progression, it needs to be the RIGHT exercise. Bursts of vigorous exercise in a workout or a day with intense sports here and there is excellent for your body. Everyday intense for hours can actually do damage. Ask athletes how they feel after a season of playing. They will usually say "broken down and need rest". Do that everyday for years and you can damage yourself on a cellular level.
On the flip side... it's good to sweat, lift heave weights, stretch and do tons of balance work a few times a week. A recipe for prevention!
