Last week, Jenny Iniego Carpo RN was honored at the Oncology Nursing Society’s annual meeting, as the recipient of the Frontline Care Award! This national award recognizes one nurse who truly makes a difference in oncology care. Congratulations, Jenny! Three nurses from the Infusion Unit, Eileen Dwyer NM, Adriana Wise RN, and Ildi Kutasi RN , attended the conference and presented a poster, titled, “Bispecific Immunotherapy Orange Alert Card: Raising Awareness of Potential Life-Threatening Adverse Events for Patients, Caregivers and Healthcare Providers.” This team consistently remains focused on innovations in patient care.

First at St. Francis:  On May 14, the Cath Lab team, led by Dr. Richard Shlofmitz, completed the first global case using the HyperVue - Integrated System.  This is a system that uses both advanced X-ray and light based imaging techniques, allowing physicians to determine if a patient needs a stent, as well as the ideal approach when inserting a stent.  Congratulations, team!

May is Stroke Awareness Month. According to Dr. Daniel Calnan, co director of the St. Francis Hospital Stroke Program and director of Neurointervention, “Patients may experience signs of a stroke ahead of the actual event. If you experience neurological issues – tingling, numbness, or weakness, you should see a doctor right away. These symptoms could be a warning shot, ahead of a stroke. Happy Mother's Day! We honor all the mothers - especially our own mother daughter duos here at St. Francis. Last year, Olivia Scheuermann, RN, 2 West, joined her mom, Laurie Scheuermann, PA, a 28 year employee! Olivia says that she was drawn to St. Francis because of our positive, family focused environment here at the hospital.

St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center has earned its 17th consecutive and 27th overall “A” grade for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group. St. Francis has received more “A” grades than any hospital in New York State since the safety scores launched in 2012. Its nationally ranked cardiovascular services and innovations are now available at other Catholic Health hospitals and at many of the system’s Ambulatory Care sites. Every Catholic Health cardiologist is part of St. Francis Heart Center.
