‼️Hot Topic Alert: The Snoo‼️
I’m not here to tell you whether or not to use the Snoo. But as a pediatric physical therapist specializing in infant development, I can’t NOT share my thoughts and what trends I see when I’m working with infants every day. Because the marketing for devices always tends to be a bit one-sided, I hope to clear the blind spots.😬
The main takeaway is that the Snoo *may* contribute to tension, torticollis, plagiocephaly, and delayed gross motor milestones in infants. If using the Snoo, it is extra important to prioritize floor time during the day, to know the signs of tension, torticollis, and plagiocephaly, to be familiar with milestones, and to reach out to a pediatric PT at the first signs of the above. If using the Snoo, work on those rolling skills during the day and stop using the Snoo just as you would any swaddle…at the first signs of rolling. A great alternative to the Snoo is investing in a sleep expert who aligns with your family’s values.
As a mom, I do understand the importance of sleep for the entire family unit. So please know that this is a *no judgment zone*. My job as pediatric PT is simply to equip you with information to make an informed decision and daily choices to support your decision.
