Hyperhidrosis is defined by abnormally excessive sweating involving the extremities, underarms, and face, usually unrelated to body temperature and exercise. Here are a few interesting facts about the condition:

- Men & women are affected equally by hyperhidrosis.
- 10 million people in the U.S. have excessive underarm sweating.
- 14 to 25 years is the age at which most people first notice excessive sweating.
- 2 to 4 million sweat glands are in the human body.
- 2% of sweat glands are located in the underarms.

See your dermatologist to determine if you struggle with hyperhidrosis and possible treatment options.

September is National Skin care Awareness month, which means more than just switching up your moisturizers. Help your skin be the best it can be with these skin care tips!⁣

🧐 Give yourself regular self-checkups (at least once a month). This will help you keep track of any changes or concerns.⁣

👩‍⚕️ We recommend you see a dermatologist once a year (or more often if you are at a higher risk of skin cancer) for a full-body, professional skin exam. A dermatologist will be able to tell you if anything is abnormal that you may not have noticed.⁣

💦 Stay hydrated! As the saying goes, it is important to drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. Your skin will stay hydrated and nourished.

☀️ Keep wearing sunscreen. Yes, summer is ending, but sunscreen should be a part of your skin care routine year-round.

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that causes excessive sweating. Yes, it’s necessary to sweat. Sweating cools the body, which prevents us from overheating. People who have hyperhidrosis, however, sweat when the body does not need cooling. This includes sweating from the palms, feet, underarms, or head.

How do you treat it?
See your dermatology provider. They will be able to properly diagnose and find out why you have excessive sweating before starting treatment. Treatments can include antiperspirants, Botox injections, prescription medicine or many other combinations of treatments. This often greatly controls the sweating and improves quality of life.

People with psoriasis have a genetic tendency to develop it. If someone in your family has this skin disease, you may have the genes to develop it. Even with the right genes, there still needs to be something that triggers the disease.

Triggers could include a physical illness, skin injury, extreme stress or a particular medication. Psoriasis triggers are either short-lived or life-long. If it is life-long, there are often treatments to control it.

See your dermatologist to determine the best treatment option for you!
