Contrary to popular opinion, not everyone with Alcohol Use Disorder necessarily has to abstain completely. While abstinence is a "sure bet" when it comes to recovery, not everyone necessarily wants to, or needs to, completely abstain from alcohol. It depends on the severity of the addiction in the first place. In my practice we develop a treatment plan that takes into account severity of addiction and likelihood of success either by moderating or abstaining.
