Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead) is a beautiful Mexican tradition celebrated on November 1 and 2 to honor and remember loved ones who have passed. Rather than a time of sadness, it’s a joyful celebration of life, love, and remembrance.

On October 27, families extend this tradition to their beloved pets, creating ofrendas (offerings) filled with favorite treats, toys, and special keepsakes to welcome their spirits home. It’s a heartfelt way to celebrate the joy, comfort, and unconditional love our pets brought into our lives.

If you take part in this tradition, share your pet’s ofrenda with us. We’d love to celebrate their memory with you!

Feline arthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease (DJD), is very common in cats. DJD occurs when the cartilage (firm, connective tissue that protects the ends of bones) within a joint is worn away. Cats with degenerative joint disease most commonly have pain in their lower back, elbows, knees, hips, shoulders, and hocks (the equivalent of our ankles). Studies indicate that as many as 92% of cats may be affected by DJD. Download our DJD flyer for signs and symptoms, as well as guidance on managing your cat’s pain, at https://bit.ly/2mbSTt0.

🎃 Keep Your Cats Safe This Halloween! 🐈‍⬛

Halloween can be a fun night for us—but a stressful or even dangerous one for our feline friends. Here are a few safety tips to keep your cat happy and healthy:

👻 Keep them indoors: Even the calmest cats can be frightened by costumes, doorbells, and trick-or-treaters.
🍫 No treats for kitties: Candy (especially chocolate and sugar-free sweets) can be toxic to cats.
🕯️ Be careful with decorations: Candles, fake cobwebs, and small décor can cause burns or be choking hazards.
🧡 Create a quiet space: Give your cat a calm room away from the noise and commotion.

If your cat gets into something spooky this Halloween, call us right away!

Stay safe and have a purr-fect Halloween! 🐾🎃

Clinical Trial for Chronic Kidney Disease!

Dietary management of cats with chronic kidney disease (CKD) can be very complicated due to the need to balance many changed dietary needs to keep the CKD from worsening, such as keeping protein relatively low while also maintaining optimal potassium and phosphorous levels.

Researchers at Cornell University Hospital for Animals are examining whether feeding a hydrolyzed protein diet will provide more amino acids while also keeping protein levels low enough to help prevent muscle wasting while still optimizing the other needs.

Note: You will be required to bring your cat to Cornell for appointments.
