We celebrated tonight! Our great grandfather Leon Phelps started Schenectady Steel in 1924, it was later run by our grandfather John and Uncle Glenn. We are blown away, beyond impressed and proud of where our family has taken this business over the last 100 years. Seeing all the welders, architects, engineers, drafters, office staff, everyone-was really heartwarming and inspiring. What a legacy! Its magnitude and impact had never really hit me until tonight seeing everyone in a room and seeing all the history and evolution over a century. To see all the buildings their steel is in and what they’ve provided to the community and all the families they support (now 100% employee owned) is incredible.
We at Zen Den have 5 years down and only 95 more to go! Entrepreneurial blood in our veins and following in our ancestral footsteps 💜 cheers to the steel company; which has been a cornerstone of our lives growing up and still today. 🥳👏🎉
We still can remember that distinct metallic smell from when dad came home from working in the shop all day since 5am. What a core memory.
Cheers to another 100!
