On National Grief Awareness Day, we pause to think of those who are grieving. Grief is a journey that takes time, and no one should walk it alone. Today and always, may we offer one another kindness, patience, and support.

Our Story

In 1921, Michael DeMarco Sr. began his funeral business at 30 Jefferson St. in the Stockade area of Schenectady. One year later, he saw the need to move his business to the corner of Schenectady St. and Strong St. in the Hamilton Hill neighborhood. With his four brothers, they established the DeMarco Brothers Funeral Homes. These funeral home branches were in Schenectady, Albany, Mechanicville, Endicott and Binghamton, NY. The brothers each became independent owners of their branches.

By 1950, Mike Sr. opened the Stone Funeral Home here in Rotterdam and it was operated by Mike Sr.’s son-in-law, Francis L. Stone. In 1961, Francis and Michael Jr. incorporated the business and the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home was born.

Upon the death of Michael DeMarco Sr., his son Mike Jr. became president and Francis Stone, vice president. Mike continued to take care of his mother, Flora, until her death in 1968 and it was in that year the Schenectady St. branch was closed.

Francis and his wife, Gloria (DeMarco) Stone retired in 1989 and at that time Larry E. Noyes (Mike Jr.'s son-in-law) was asked to join the family business. Michael Jr. always had dreams to expand. He and his son, Michael “Mickey” DeMarco built the Glenville Funeral Home which his son now independently owns.
