Amber Tracy, MA, LPC-Associate Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, Supervised by Shanda Anderson, MA, LPC-S. EMDR-Trained But you don't have to stay there.

Your hurts and challenges don't have to leave you feeling stuck and helpless, struggling to maintain zest for life or healthy relationships. You may be walking through life with so many heavy burdens that leave you feeling defeated and isolated. Healing is possible through caring for the needs of your mind, body, and spirit as we process through your experiences together. There is hope for change, to feel empowered to not just survive but to thrive. My previous experience includes counseling women and children in the Domestic Violence Unit at The Salvation Army in Dallas and serving as a Resident Assistant at the Poiema Foundation’s safe home for women rehabilitating from commercial sexual exploitation. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), which is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. While my early experience primarily focused on individuals with complex trauma, I also have experience working with depression, anxiety, personality and mood disorders, and couples from working in the private practice setting. I am a Certified Facilitator of Prepare Enrich, the top research-based tool for pre-marital and marital assessment for more than 40 years. I'm passionate about helping people through the process of counseling by utilizing a wholistic approach to care for your mind, body and spirit grounded in a Biblical worldview. I believe every person has incredible worth and can live an abundant life. I look forward to walking alongside you, empowering you on your journey of healing so that you can thrive. Anxiety series: part 1, “Allow” 😌 surprise guest appearance at the end 😂

When we tell ourselves we can’t feel anxious, it makes us more anxious and/or gets stored in our body as stress and presents in ways we don’t want it to later on.

Lean in and allow yourself to feel anxious for just a few moments letting your body move through it. Another way to think of it is “riding the wave.” This can sometimes help your body and brain to move through this temporary feeling instead of resisting it and creating a bottle neck that inevitably explodes. It will feel scary and out of control at first to do this so practice by trying it for a minute or two to build up your window of tolerance without distracting yourself or finding ways to numb out with food, entertainment, shopping, etc. Remember as you experience any emotion, including anxiety, Jesus is right there to be with you in the middle of the storm. He lived in a body and has felt the emotions we have felt like being tempted to fret and he empathizes with us. (Hebrews 4:15-16)

In future videos, we will talk about ways to calm yourself and to process anxiety but this first nugget is challenging us to learn to recognize when we are feeling anxious and allowing ourselves to ride the wave for a few moments. 🌊

Shoutout to my little baby helper Evelyn! 💖
