300 people are dying each day in our country from overdoses. This team and several others are fighting on the front lines to save lives, push back darkness, and set captives free.

I’m so thankful to get the chance to work alongside our incredible team!

At Aspire Austin we encourage residents to take a look at their finances and to fix any bad spending habits or pay off debts. Isolation is a common theme amongst addicts in the grips of the disease. As we move into sobriety, it can be very uncomfortable for us when we are around other people and re-learning to communicate effectively. It may feel weird, or it may feel like we are doing it “wrong”. However, it is this uncomfortable feeling that lets us know we are doing something “right”. For it is our way that got us here in the first place.

Unity is one of the core principles of recovery. The disease is selfish and wants all of the glory, making it so hard to connect and bond with others. Life will take on a whole new meaning when addicts/alcoholics lean on each other. We are all in this together.

Pause and reflect - this may mean making small changes in your behavior to protect your health. It can be useful to commit to a period of time in which we change our behavior, as it is often less daunting than making permanent changes.
Your addiction is not your fault and you don't have to go through it alone. There is help available and people who care about you. Recovery is possible and there are many ways to get the help you need. The important thing is to reach out and get the support you need so that you can move forward in recovery.

Some may choose to take a month to feel more in control of their drinking, like by taking part in a 30-day sabbatical.

Overcoming addiction takes more than will power. It requires removing old influences and connecting with overcomers.

If you know someone looking to break the cycle, encourage them to get plugged into a support group.

Although the economy appears to be on the bounce back, the damage done is irreconcilable for thousands of businesses and millions of employees across the nation. With unemployment and crime on the rise, substance abuse has followed suit. For many, knowing what questions to ask or where to look isn't obvious.

If you have a loved one, or know someone, that's struggling with addiction there are solutions and I can help.

Testimony from one of our residents....

"Aspire Austin gave me more than just a second chance. I was way, way beyond second chances -- somewhere around the 20th chance marker, if I were to guess. Due to my record, nobody was willing to provide me with housing, and there was nowhere I could call until someone referred my Dad to Aspire Austin.

Upon arrival, fresh out of prison after a three-year sentence, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But when I walked into Aspire Austin that first night, I knew I hadn’t just found a house to live in. What I had found was a home, a place inhabited by people who all had difficult pasts they weren’t proud of, but who were working with themselves and each other to overcome their struggles. Through Step work, attending regular meetings (including an in-house meeting), a weekly rotation of chores, and more, we all became more responsible. And, day by day, we healed.

If you’re like I was and are in need of another chance at a better life, do yourself a favor and give Aspire Austin a call. Their doors and their arms are open to all."
