What we call “dysfunction” often began as protection.

In NARM, we bring awareness to how these protective survival strategies formed—often early in life, often outside of conscious choice.

Rather than trying to "fix" these patterns at the behavioral level, we explore the deeper needs and longings they’ve been organized around.

They weren’t flaws. They were life-saving. And they don’t have to define us forever.

Western ideas of therapy based in eradication will never be able to facilitate integrative, lasting healing. It is this very splitting away from painful emotions that allows us to survive trauma yet keeps us in self-disconnection and survival mode. Thankfully, in safe relationships, we can gradually reconnect to these parts of ourselves that we once had to disown in a way that allows for reconnection and integration. I am honored to be with you in the courageous journey of turning towards pain and to growing that capacity together. With the capacity to be with painful emotions like anger and grief in the heart space, comes the joy, peace, and fulfillment of living life presently from an open heart. 💫

"Each person carries a hidden poetic unity that reflects the mysterious continuity of the Soul of the World. In the depths of the soul, we are each an old soul able to survive the troubles of the world and contribute to its healing and renewal. The key to what we miss and secretly long for is hidden within us. Medicine men and healers of all kinds from cultures around the world have used various techniques to not only “heal” the soul, but also to restore individuals to their proper place in the world and in their culture. To heal means to “make whole,” and when we feel whole we are in touch with the whole world. When in touch with our underlying soul, we are naturally in touch with nature and the Soul of the World. We are the missing ingredient in the solutions needed for all that ails us, if we but awaken to the nature of our own souls."

“As ruthlessly as death sweeps in to dismantle what’s familiar, life always follows. It brings vitality and growth to the fallow regions of our lives. Just like wild herbs appear in contaminated soil to help cleanse it of toxins, it is the way of nature to remediate. Our job, like the soil, is to submit to this mysterious process. To trust that, even as the old form is decomposing, a new form is coalescing out of sight.”

Whitney Sutherland, M.A., LPC

I have always possessed a natural curiosity for the human psyche and the inner-workings of relationships. I believe that as humans, each of us are wired for fulfilling relationships, yet that difficult life circumstances can create a rupture in this connection with others as well as ourselves. I view my role as a therapist as a fellow human engaging with you in a healing relationship where we can work towards your goals and areas of concern. My hope is that our work together assists you on your own journey towards a deep and fulfilling sense of connection, purpose, and meaning as we collaboratively transcend barriers to your desired experiences.

As a genuine and self-proclaimed nerd, I tend to research and occasionally share some of the science behind attachment, relationships, as well as presenting concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, etc. I have found this to be helpful for myself and for clients wishing to better understand some of what is going on “behind the scenes” in order to better notice opportunities to make a preferred choice rather than to live life at the mercy of reactions that aren't serving us. Though I find this information useful, I tend to work experientially and to perceive well-being holistically. Meaning, I support and facilitate the natural wisdom of your mind, body, emotions, and highest self as a whole to unlock what feels stuck. Together, we will work experientially to notice what arises in the moment and to allow deeper awareness to emerge through attuning to emotions and sensations with mindfulness. I believe that honing this practice of tuning in not only alleviates what is causing our pain, but also brings to life our dormant potentials. We access our unique and authentic selves, gain clarity on former illusions/misbeliefs, repair and restore what is broken in ourselves and with those we love, and develop our capacity to increasingly live and connect with an open heart. .
