Meeting with a kidney dietitian as soon as you are diagnosed with kidney disease will result in better health outcomes.

Medicare and other insurances cover nutrition therapy visits from Stage 3a, so if your nephrologist suggests you wait until stage 4 or later to see a dietitian, you either become your own advocate or change your doctor!

To learn how timely nutrition intervention can help slow progression of CKD, send me a DM.

More research is leaning towards including plant based diets for patients with CKD.
In addition to several benefits, a plant based diet can help delay dialysis or even avoid it, when planned carefully by a kidney dietitian.

Kidney nutrition has changed so much over the years.

Thanks to the research in this field we now know that many other factors play into kidney health, and must be taken into consideration while counseling clients.

Old approach of low sodium, potassium, phosphorus and protein is just going to help patients prevent complications of CKD.

However, the new approach actually helps preserve kidney function, which is key to delaying or preventing dialysis.

Seeking a kidney dietitian who is knowledgeable with all aspects of the renal diet is important.

Schedule a discovery call on www.renalnutrition.net to know more about my approach to kidney health.

Hyperkalemia or high potassium levels in blood is a serious complication, requiring medical care.

People with kidney disease are more prone to hyperkalemia, but there are various factors responsible for this besides diet.

I regularly meet with clients who avoid high potassium foods like bananas, tomatoes, potatoes, and avocado because they read outdated information on the internet or their doctor asked them not to.

Recent research shows a very weak association between dietary potassium and its effect on blood potassium levels.

Meeting with a kidney dietitian is important to determine your individual needs and how high potassium foods can actually do more good than harm.

Schedule your introductory call to learn more about how a plant based diet (without restricting your favorite high potassium foods) can help you preserve your kidney function.

Phosphorus additives contribute to increased blood phosphorus levels. How? Phosphorus additives are absorbed more than 90% by our bodies. Just swapping out an additive laden product (bread, certain beverages, some cheese, snacks) with a no phosphorus additive substitute can save you considerable amount of phosphorus, and help maintain kidney health.
