Happy morning! (?)

“How may I know you, O Yogin,
reflecting on you constantly? “

A friend of mine said, when I was lost, open the Gita randomly and that will help.

It did, clarity is in me.

A talented client of mine said, read Micheal Port, and so I started it, have been answering prompts all week aimed at clarity of self + brand.

I wanted to share 🤍

I’m Krista Quinn

I am a teacher of movement, a facilitator of healing, a hormone on legs, and a revealer. I like to feel connected, purposeful, supportive, effective, and grateful.

In a past life that sometimes blends with this one, I was a musician, this was and still is part of my healing process. But mostly lives in me as deep insight and creativity 🔥

I love supporting human with back pain, who are beginners to conscious movement, who have intense cycles related to hormones, and who are seeking emotional clarity and support using mindfulness, and body awareness as vehicles for the process.

The #1 tool I use to facilitate this support, is creating space in myself to listen and practice. But I also use:

Hatha Yoga 🌝🌚

Mindful strength training 💪🏽

Meditation 🧘🏻‍♀️

Foundational neuroscience as it applies to movement 🧠

The last bit of the sauce is that thing you can’t see, but feel, a human resonance and connection that is everything 💫

I learn something from my clients every day 🙌🏽

In this particular case, my client is working hard on creating the behavior change necessary to commit to good daily movement habits.

👉🏽Often times we get stuck in the mindset, I have to get this many reps in, move these joints in these ways, get this exact alignment, put in x amount of time… in order to feel like it’s worth it.

And look, eventually you do. All of these metrics count. And you will get there.

But when you are getting started, with very little conscious movement history, as my client so aptly reminded me…

👉🏽Doing something you like a little, and can stick to is better than not moving at all. Even if it’s not in perfect form or for higher reps, or with a goal in mind.

👉🏽I can give you all the fancy, proven effective programs I want, but if you don’t do them, what’s the point?

👉🏽I’d rather you do the things that move you, and then help you build on that!

It’s wooohoooo, not woowoo! 🙂

I was drawn to Yoga from a very young age. Shout out to 13 year old baby K, out of control, pseudo witch vibes 🧙‍♀️, painting the bedroom walls Krista. Also shout out to Fort Clayton library, when US military bases were still a thing in Panama. Because on one of your many shelves I found the first book I ever read on Yoga.

It was all about esoteric purification rituals 😳 that I didn’t understand, but was fascinated by 🤯 The weird rituals, images of Yogis, the discipline I didn’t possess. The spiritual, emotional, science, art, woven in with the physical.

This experience, even though I can remember the name of the book, was like a seed planted. 🌱

Years later, I found the physical practice, during recovery from a discectomy. A community friend lent me a Hatha Yoga book + tape (the horror)!

I practiced and practiced and practiced, till the physical postures were then and are still now imprinted in my body. It felt like reconnecting to an in growing thread 🌱

As a beginner to the practice I felt:

✨It was a way of physically working my body, while knowing it.

✨I felt safe. It wasn’t about getting thinner, someone yelling at me to get reps in or changing my body composition (also Iyengar wasn’t there to slap me with his yard stick lol)

✨ There was space for listening, learning, and revealing the wisdom of me.

✨As a result I started the process of clarifying out of control emotions, unhealthy relationships, and addictions.

Now, I not only continue this process in myself, alone and under the guidance of spiritual diamonds But, I get to share and support everyone I work with, in their process of revealing and this is a profound honor, and where the learning never ends. 💗

😶‍🌫️The journey of the self, through the self, 😧 to the self. 🤯✨🌟

When you are starting anything from scratch, start with the foundation. Layer by layer.

In my movement protocol, we start with developing your proprioception, which is all about revealing the connection between your nervous system, balance system, bones and tissues, to = movement intuition.

Think of it as pre Yoga, or pre training. It’s not glamorous, and is only as sexy as you are 🧐

But developing a body you can trust, to move in the ways you love, is 💕

We can experience this connection, using various tools, like sensory stimulus and self myofascial release, breath work while walking, joint mobility, Yoga practice, isometrics, or lifting and putting down heavy things… (I know some of you have kids lol)

Like all practices, developing this trust takes time. ✋🏽I’m here for it.

At first it’s not about how many reps you can get in, it’s about learning how your body handles stress and new physical challenges, and adapting, it’s about learning how to listen to what the body is saying…

After all, it is incredibly intelligent, and it’s been moving and doing hard things for a while. It’s just a matter of revealing, and connecting to what’s already there.

Again, I’m here for it 💕

To my movement beginners. Take a deep breath, I feel ya.

And good on you for showing up, and deciding that a good movement practice = the key to preventative wellness.

But, you aren’t flexible … don’t worry, you don’t have to be.

But, you’ve barely taken a Yoga class… I’ve got you + virtual incense.

But, you hate gyms, and the whole gym bro vibe… me too.

But, you don’t identify with toxic fitness and wellness culture… good I don’t either.

But, you are recovering from an injury and are afraid to get reinjured… yes me too, I got you.

And still, you know that it’s time to take that step towards preventative health for the long run, and you want tools that will help you develop a movement practice that you love, that is supportive, built on a solid foundation, that will help you be physically healthier in a way that feels natural to you, and become a bridge to even more movement possibilities.

I can help.

The first step is developing movement intuition, and this looks different for everyone, but generally starts with your nervous system knowing where your body is in space.

I think I’ve been throwing myself up against walls for a while, never really believing I’d ever handstand in the middle of the room. So I’ve been thinking a lot about belief lately, but also about smart preparation for abandon. Are they possible in tandem... f**k if I know. But I hope and I practice. Give these drills a try. Hollow body upside down against wall is hella scary, but worth it. Later this week, I’ll share the foundational mobility and flow to prep these movements. Love and light and happy everything! 💜
