From the time I was in high school I had an interest in the health-related field and in helping people, however my path hadn't led me in that direction. Many years later, in 2003, I was involved in the Women's Ministry team at my church. At an evening dinner with the team I was prayed over and told that God was going to anoint my hands and I would heal people. I had a hard time imagining what that

meant as I hadn't had any education in the field. A move to another state a year later, I was involved at another church and we were hosting a Spa Day for widows and single mothers. I decided to stop by the massage school in town to ask if they had anyone that might volunteer. Before I left, I found myself enrolled in massage school! Within five years of graduating I ended up with injuries from doing massage - both shoulders, both elbows and my right hand were a mess. I almost gave it all up until a friend of mine suggested I look into Bowen Therapy. I was immediately blown away by the results and the ease on my body and those of my clients. The outcomes of this gentle technique was far more superior to that of any massage modality I had learned. The rest is history. I learned that gentle techniques, especially those that work with the nervous system, was the answer. I also learned that God doesn't call the equipped... He equips the called!!

✨ Some clients report seeing colours, gentle lights, feeling like they are floating or swimming, or entering that space between wakefulness and sleep during a session. Why can this happen?

From a neuroscience perspective, these experiences are often linked to the nervous system entering a deep state of regulation and relaxation.

When the body feels safe and the mind begins to quiet:

🌿 external noise reduces
🌿 brainwave activity can shift into calmer alpha/theta states
🌿 awareness turns inward
🌿 the brain may generate internal sensations such as colours, light, floating feelings or dreamlike imagery

This is similar to what many people experience during:

meditation
deep breathwork
hypnagogic states (the bridge between wakefulness and sleep)

It does not necessarily mean anything strange or wrong. Often, it can simply reflect that the body is letting go of stress and the nervous system is moving into a restorative state.

💛 Every person experiences sessions differently. Some feel stillness, some feel emotion, some feel energy, and some experience colours or drifting sensations.

Sometimes healing feels less like “doing”… and more like allowing.

✨ Why I Opened Northern Spinal Flow ✨

In June 2020, I was managing Dollar General when a severe injury changed everything. What started as a herniated disc led me down a road I never saw coming.

Just three days after my first back surgery, the same disc shattered on the other side, requiring a second surgery only a month later. Then came my right SI joint fusion. When that side stabilized, the left side started hurting. My surgeon looked at me and said we were going to have an “extensive relationship for the rest of your life” because of the extent of the damage at my age.

By 2024, I had undergone a back surgery almost every single year since my injury. I also had a C-section with my youngest in 2023. My body had been cut open on my back and my stomach multiple times. I was exhausted, broken, and losing hope.

Nobody talks about the mental toll a serious physical injury takes. I was battling doctors, the system, and my own body. At one point I was on 22 different medications — including 4mg of Xanax a day (plus extra as needed), 30mg Adderall in the morning, 15mg in the afternoon, Trazodone to sleep, gabapentin, pain pill, muscle relaxers, antidepressants, something to enhance the antidepressants,… you name it. The meds turned me into a zombie, so they gave me more meds to function. It was a vicious cycle.

I couldn’t lift my kids. I couldn’t play with them. I couldn’t even properly parent them. I had to sit back and watch someone else do everything while I was in constant pain and fog.

I knew the traditional medical route was no longer healing me — it was just managing my very fast decline. I needed something different. Something that cured the CAUSE and not put another bandaid on. Something holistic. Something that actually helped my body heal. That’s when I found Spinal Flow.

I was extremely skeptical. The idea that gentle touch could create such powerful healing seemed impossible. I thought “there’s no way.” But something deep down told me to keep an open mind. This was what would help!

In 2024, I went to an immersive training in Mexico. On the third day, after a session on the table, I stood up… and had zero pain. I waited. Five minutes. An hour. Four hours. Then the whole evening passed — still no pain. I couldn’t believe it.

A year and a half later, I have successfully avoided my fifth surgery. I’m down to just one pharmaceutically prescribed medication. I have energy. I can play with my kids. I can live my life again.

I opened Northern Spinal Flow because I believe people in our community deserve options — the same options I wish I had when I was suffering. I want to offer a gentle, powerful, holistic path to healing that goes beyond what traditional medicine could do for me.

Spinal Flow gave me my life back. And I’m incredibly grateful to now share this work with International Falls and the surrounding area.

If you’re in pain, if you feel stuck, if you’ve been told “this is just how it’s going to be”… please know there are other ways!

I’d love to talk with you.

With hope and gratitude,

Amy 💕

Do you experience one-sided back pain? Bowen therapy can help!

wsneuroreset.com

When your jaw is unbalanced, your pelvis compensates.

The cascade:
1. Jaw imbalance pulls your head forward
2. Your neck muscles tighten to stabilize
3. Your spine compensates by shifting
4. Your pelvis tilts to maintain balance
5. One-sided back pain, hip tightness, or SI joint dysfunction appears

Why this happens:

Your jaw connects to deep neck muscles that attach directly to your spine. When jaw muscles stay tight, they create a chain of compensations that travel downward.

Your brain tries to keep you balanced. When your head shifts forward from jaw tension, your pelvis shifts backward.

This is why jaw clenchers often have chronic lower back issues that don't respond to hip stretches or core work.

The pattern:
Stressed → Clench jaw → Head forward → Pelvis compensates → Chronic pain

Most people treat the pelvis or lower back. They stretch their hips. They do core exercises. They get adjustments.

But the jaw tension hasn't changed. So the compensation pattern repeats.

Here's what actually breaks the cycle:

Your jaw has to stop clenching. Not through conscious relaxation that only works when you're thinking about it.

Automatically. Even while you sleep.

When jaw tension releases at the reflex level, your head repositions. Your spine decompresses. Your pelvis stops compensating.

The one-sided back pain disappears—not because you treated your back, but because the trigger stopped firing.

Though I never met Tom Bowen, I have great respect and gratitude for him and his work. I’m blessed beyond measure to be carrying on with his technique. Bowen therapy is truly amazing!

wsneuroreset.com

Today we honour the life and legacy of Tom Bowen.

A man of quiet presence, deep care, and extraordinary dedication to helping others. Tom devoted his life to serving those in need, often working tirelessly, day after day, guided by something far greater than ambition.

This is a combination of original images and respectful AI recreations, shared to honour and highlight Tom’s work.

What he left behind is more than a technique. It is a movement, inspired by a line from one of his favourite quotes:
“Any good that I can do, let me do it now.”

Bowen Therapy has become a living body of work that continues to support, restore, and transform lives around the world.

His approach reminds us that less can be more. That gentleness can be powerful. And that true healing often arises not from force, but from listening… from allowing the body the space to respond in its own time.

Today, we acknowledge not only what Tom Bowen did, but who he was.

A pioneer. A servant. A genius. A man deeply connected to the innate intelligence of the human body.

His legacy lives on through every practitioner, every client, and every moment of stillness where healing unfolds.

Happy Birthday, Thomas Ambrose Bowen

Bowen Therapy’s gentle inputs highly affect the fascia throughout the body bringing about dramatic changes.

wsneuroreset.com

One of the fascinating aspects of fascia is its sensitivity.

This connective tissue network contains a rich supply of sensory receptors, constantly communicating with the nervous system.

Gentler therapeutic approaches such as Bowen Therapy can influence this remarkable system.

Because fascia is highly responsive, precise input may be enough to stimulate change without the need for sustained force.

Bowen Therapy uses small, precise moves followed by pauses, allowing the nervous system time to register and respond.

Sometimes, subtle input is exactly what the body is listening for.

Postural Change Is a Nervous System Conversation

As a Spinal Flow Practitioner, posture is something I am constantly monitoring.

Not from an aesthetic perspective — but from a neurological one.

Before I go further, I want to acknowledge that the photo shared here is of a client under the care of another Spinal Flow Practitioner - Sunshine Healing Therapy LLC. She willingly consented to her images being used for educational purposes because the change was so profound. I share it with respect — and to illustrate what is possible when the nervous system begins to regulate.

Posture reflects nervous system tone.

When someone presents with pronounced shoulder rounding, anterior head carriage, and increased thoracic flexion, this is rarely just “poor posture.” More often, it reflects protective physiology.

With unresolved stress, the autonomic nervous system shifts toward sympathetic dominance. One of the physiological effects of this state is increased baseline muscle tone — particularly in flexor patterns and anterior chain musculature (pectorals, upper trapezius, levator scapulae).

When muscle tone remains elevated over time:
• Tendon tension increases
• Joint loading patterns shift
• Thoracic flexion becomes sustained
• Cervical extension compensates

Muscles attach to bone via tendons. Persistent contraction increases tensile pull across those attachments, influencing joint positioning and movement efficiency. Vertebrae are not being “pulled out,” but they can become compressed, restricted, and less adaptable under chronic guarding patterns.

The posture becomes an adaptive survival strategy.

In the “before” image on the right, the shoulders are markedly protracted and elevated — a classic protective presentation.

In the “after,” on the left you’ll notice:
• Reduced shoulder protraction
• Improved thoracic extension
• More neutral head carriage
• A visibly more balanced center of gravity

This was not forced correction.

This reflects a shift in nervous system tone.

As the nervous system begins to perceive safety, parasympathetic activity increases. When regulation improves, excessive muscle guarding decreases. As muscle tone normalizes, tensile load through the tendons reduces and joint mechanics redistribute more evenly across the spine.

When the body no longer needs to brace, it reorganizes.

This is why posture assessment is ongoing in my practice. It gives insight into:
• Autonomic balance
• Stress adaptation patterns
• Where the body may still be guarding
• How integration is unfolding over time

Posture is not just structural alignment — it is neurological expression.

Spinal Flow is not about manually forcing posture into place. It is about restoring communication within the nervous system so the body can self-organize more efficiently.

The body has an innate ability to reorganize itself when interference is reduced.

And sometimes, the most profound shifts are the ones you can see — standing right in front of you. 🤩

This is about Dr. Carli Axford, the genius and founder of Spinal Flow. It was such a privilege to learn from her.

Dr. Carli Axford is a leader in the evolution of spinal healing and neurological care.

With Double Bachelors in Chiropractic Science and advanced training in Network Spinal Analysis, Bio-Geometric Integration, Torque Release Technique, Sacro-Occipital Technique, Applied Kinesiology, Neuro-Emotional Technique, and EFT, Dr. Carli brings together decades of study, clinical experience, and innovation.

After more than 20 years of hands-on practice — including work alongside the Texas Back Institute, where her approach contributed to preventing 85% of spinal surgeries — Dr. Carli recognized a gap in the healing world. Many modalities addressed pieces of the puzzle, but few offered a streamlined, gentle, root-cause approach that was both effective and accessible.

From this realization, the Spinal Flow Technique™ was born.

Dr. Carli instantly knew she had developed something revolutionary — a technique that helps clients access deep healing without force, and without years of medical training or overwhelming debt for practitioners.
Today, her mission is clear: To empower practitioners and healers with a method that works at the root cause level — so they can help more people, create meaningful impact.

Many of my clients are visually still during the session but that doesn’t mean change isn’t happening. Everyone processes Spinal Flow differently. The nervous system IS doing its job to regulate and bring healing.
