Michael R. Laing

Michael R. Laing, 91, of Norman, OK, passed away peacefully after finishing his race strong and went to be with our Lord at 10:00 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Brookdale Assisted Living Home in Maryville, TN.

Born on January 31, 1935 in Logansport, IN, as the son of the late Harry and Julia (Marter) Laing. He is a 1953 graduate of Logansport High School and a 1961 graduate with a BA degree in Accounting from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Michael is a U.S. Navy veteran where he served on the USS Macon from 1953 to 1957 during the Korean War.

On August 8, 1959 he married Nancy “Sue” Springer and they were married for 55 years. She preceded him in death on August 9, 2014. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and encourager to his 3 children and 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and several “adopted” special friends.

Mike worked in insurance sales, automotive accessory sales, Case knives sales, and lastly he retired from his sales career with 30 years of operating his own business, “Sue’s Sales” selling Case and commemorative knives in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas.

Mike loved his Lord, Jesus Christ, and was a faithful prayer warrior for his family and any friends/needs that he became aware of. He served as a deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church of Norman, OK for many years and always enjoyed his men’s group bible study.

Mike displayed a zest for life in many ways. Some of his many interests include a love of music (he played stand-up bass in a band in the 50’s/60’s and took guitar lessons); being a life-long learner (studied German, Italian, Spanish, and Russian); always completed the daily crossword puzzle; LOVED traveling adventures (including a special trip with each of his kids and grandchildren); and loved the ocean/fishing and collecting nautical treasures to decorate his “Boat Room.” He was a lover of all animals (and living things) and especially all of this German Shepherds (Peppers and Isabels). Later in life, Mike became passionate about running. At age 68 he began running 5 and 10K races and even ran a half-marathon right before his 80th birthday!

One of his greatest joys was serving others. He volunteered as a docent at the Dinosaur museum at Oklahoma University, delivered meals for “Meals on Wheels,” and worked as a volunteer with Sue at Norman Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his children, Tim Laing (Stacy) of Oklahoma City, OK; Ted Laing of Frisco, TX; and Lisa (Bobby) Humphreys of Maryville, TN. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2026 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Marocco Chapel, 119 E. Market St., Logansport. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial with Military Rites will be performed at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
